What to Wear: From Summer to Fall

On my way to church on Sunday I passed a house that already had a corn stalk and pumpkins decorating the front lawn.
Am I late or are they seriously early?
Gracious, I didn't even know pumpkins were available yet!

First of all, I want to say Congrats to Christine Marie! You have won the set of notecards on Psalm 45:11 from Christine! (Go look at last week's post if you want to see them..they are amazing!) Here's what Christine Marie had to say about them and this is exactly what Christine's interpretation was when she painted them:

"It's like she's afraid to look in the mirror and
she's thinking about the words in the scripture at the same time."

Please email me your address and Christine will mail those to you!
Thank you to all of you for your beautiful comments last week.

Tomorrow (thursday), you will be receiving the first edition of my Fall newsletter. I say first edition because by the time October gets here I'll be ready to send you another one and it will still be Fall! So that can be the second edition! Ha!

In the newsletter I have the top 10 fall trends listed and how to wear them this season. I also have the top ten autumn fashion colors for you too, along with an upcoming Beauty Bootcamp date. I soooo hope you'll check that out! There's other goodies in there, too.

So today I wanted to give you a kick start into Fall and get you thinking about 2 things:

Your skin and your t-shirt collection.

If you're like most of us, you have both!

So let's tackle skin first. How's yours feeling? If it's not getting a bit dry yet, it most likely  will be because Fall weather tends to dry us out a little bit. It also may get a bit flaky in areas and a bit sensitive. May I suggest that every woman's skincare wardrobe should inlcude the following 4 items:

  • Eye Makeup Remover

  • Eye Cream

  • Skin Cleanser

  • Moisturizer
If that's all you have, then I'm okay with that. Let's FACE it, we're busy.
But it IS important that you take care of your skin. One day you will wake up and either be glad that you did or be sad you didn't.

I was sitting next to a woman yesterday and noticed how loose her skin was. It also looked very dry and lacked any luster. She was at least 10 years younger than me so I knew her skin didn't have to look like that. Girlfriends, it's not about what products you use, or how expensive your moisturizer is, its about taking the time every night and morning to wash it off (your makeup) and put it on (your moisturizer).

I also HIGHLY recommend an eye makeup remover to take off any mascara and eye makeup. You know I'm kind of a Mary Kay junkie (if you didn't know that about me, you do now) and I promise you, if you can find an eye makeup remover that works better than their eye makeup remover I will pay you $50. Seriously. There is NOT one out there. I think it costs about $14 but it is sooooo good my eyes hurt when I use a different one (which I'm doing right now because I ran out and haven't had time to order more or go to my consultant's house even though I know she'd come to mine but I've been too busy to pick up the phone...oh but I DID have time to stop in WalMart and pick up another brand that is baaaddddd. What is THAT about?

Anyway, no matter what brand you use, make sure you take care of your skin. There are lots of good products out there, but they won't just jump on your skin by themselves, YOU have to APPLY that cleanser and moisturizer...okay? Okay!

Now let's talk T-shirts.

Will you do me a favor and promise me you won't wear too many regular t-shirts anymore out in public? I'm talking about the ones with a regular boxy look and words on them. They really have no style and no purpose except to advertise something. NOW, before you get all mad at me and call me names I will admit there is a time and place for them. Like when you want to support your favorite team. Or when your women's ministry is having an event and you wear t-shirts designed for that event. Or when you're exercising.
And...............I think that's it.

Okay, so since most of our days aren't spent doing one of the above, then my goal for this post is to show you some options to replace them. And I promise you'll feel so much cuter and prettier in these. Take a look! These first four t-shirt type tops are from Kohl's and right now they're each on sale for around 25 bucks on their website.

Here's a couple more:

Kmart$12.99

JCPenney $24.99 sale
This collection is from CAbi (available thru independent consultants), I wanted to show you how taking a simple bottom, adding a tunic or top that isn't a regular tshirt and throwing on a scarf or jacket can turn a plain pair of pants into a spiffy outfit in a hurry!

I hope this will inspire you to put your t-shirts aside and add a more color and style to your wardrobe this fall.

2 things before I go:

One, I'm guest posting over here today.
This is site for women who are in the beginning stages of speaking and writing. If this is YOU, then check it out. It's called StepUp Writing and Speaking.
I'm giving away a signed copy of my book over there so please head over and show them some love. I'd encourage you to go thru past posts and join them on FB so you can get regular information from them.
I love what Shonda and Shona are doing!

In Honor of today's Proverbs 31 devotional I'm giving away

Hi Shari,

I would love to win a handbag for my dearest friend Renee Williams who truly is an awesome woman of God and my praying partner. She has truly changed my life and together we are trying to change the lives of people, especially our colleagues at work by praying for them in their times of need. Renee would truly feel blessed if she had to receive a handbag as a gift to her and i know she truly needs one but doesn't have the finance to by one at this time. Renee has truly grown in the Lord and i know she is a woman after God's heart because He has truly transformed her into the women she is today. And finally she deserves to win because is my sister in Christ and my bestest friend. Vijay

Hi Shari,
I just love to watch for and read your Encouragement for Today devotional. I was just blessed with it today. :) Also, I don't know if it I could join your small contest but still I want to win a handbag for my mom. I don't know who else I would want to give a handbag to, so I choose mom. Well, it's not really like I have no other choice, there is my best friend but it feels just right to give the handbag to mom. She had been into lots of trouble watching over us and I just want to make her smile with a simple gift like this one. I wanted to give her the handbag because of one incident that I would never forget. That was when I wanted to have my hair done on a salon and I asked her if she could accompany me and of course pay for it since I don't have any money to spend at all. :) She said yes so we went and while we were asking the kind lady at the salon about the price, the lady asked my mom if she also wanted to have her hair done. But she refused and said she'd just skip that offer because all she wanted was to see us being wonderfully trimmed and well taken care of. She hadn't thought much of making herself look good or even better as long as she'd see us look good. I'd wanted to hug mom for that during that time but I never did. So, I wanted to return a little something for mom for being so loving and caring. ~~ Marijan

Shari,

First of all I finished your book earlier this week and LOVED it! I can't wait to do my fall shopping! Thank you so much for your devotion. Now that school is starting back I find myself having a hard time not over-committing. It was a great reminder to make sure I have the free time in my day to sit quietly & listen to God. If I won the purse I would give one to my twin sister. People joke and say she is the country mouse & I am the city mouse. But, I think our styles are more a like than most people think.

Have a blessed day, Mary

My mother in law deserves a handbag. She loves handbags and would be thrilled to get one but most of all she just needs something for herself. She's been caring for my husbands grand parents - her husbands parents (not even her own) and his grandather passed away this month. He left behind a wife whose been recently diagnosed with dementia. So...needless to say she's overworked and tired. She's had rarely any time for herself and it would be wonderful to give her something nice. On top of caring for my husbands grand parents they have a church body to care for too (my husbands father is a pastor). They just keep giving and giving. Anyhow, I'm rambling but I would love for her to be given something nice and special for her.
On another note - I really needed that posting today as business has taken over lately. Thanks for your words of redirection and focus.

Hi!
This is the first time I have visited your site. My "style" is pretty much what you said is a "no-no"...jeans and a t=shirt... I try but have had a hard time with how I look--never feeling stylish or pretty. I have recently been thinking about how to help my "style" improve....so I will be taking a "peek" at your site from time to time to get some ideas.

I would like to nominate my daughter regarding the handbag. She is much better than I am with style! She is a college student (with a college student income--poor). She is inspirational because she is a determined person--Smart and strong in the midst of adversity. She loves the LORD and inspires others in that way. I would love to see her blessed with a new handbag. :)

Thank you!

I am so excited that you have written a book! My sister got all th style genes in the family, and I have been struggling to determine my own style, so this is a God-send! I would love to win a purse to give to my Mom. She's a remedial reading teacher who has always devoted every inch of herself to her own three kids and the dozens of children she teaches every year. Last school year was horrible and exhausting for her, both at work and at home due to serious health concerns in several family members. This school year is gearing up to a battle as well, and I would love to have something fun and shiny just for her!

My only sister is my choice for a handbag. She is an encouragement to me. How I would love to be able to get a copy of your book .. even more to meet and talk with you...

Ooooh! I would be so thrilled to present my friend Stacey with a new handbag! She has lots on her plate right now -- so much that she actually skipped our annual girls' beach trip because the stress of preparing to leave wasn't worth making the trip. :-( She is the awesome, faithful director of a church preschool (10+ years!) and I would love to send her back to school with a fab new purse! Oh, and she is the founder/director/organizer of the preschool's consignment sale -- a HUGE event that benefits the entire community. Yeah Stacey!!

I'd love to win a handbag for my mother-in-law, Rhonda. My mom passed away when I was 17, but God has blessed me with a new mom who has been one of my biggest supporters the last 7 years.
Although she suffers from constant back pain and fibromyalgia, she keeps her focus on others, rather than herself. She's always the first one to offer to pray for someone in need, to bring food to those who are hurting and serve whenever possible. She constantly opens her home to others, without requiring anything in return. She has been the Titus 2 woman in my life, reminding me that God is in control, and radiating God's love in big and small ways. Even when her mother and aunt passed away within weeks of each other this year, she still had a peace and a joy about her that brought comfort to those around her. She is a rock of support in our family. I can't think of anyone more deserving of a special gift than Rhonda.

Hello,

I would love to give a new purse to my mom. First, she loves purses and would love to have a new one:) But honestly, I love my mom so much and she is such a support and an encouragement to me. Her love & prayers are so amazing. No matter what issues my marriage and my health have gone through she is always there with a kind word and to let me know she's praying. She helps with my children and she calls just to see how I am doing! Writing this makes me feel like crying because I love her so much and she is really not just my mother but is my friend. Thanks for such a neat give away. Oh, and if I won the book I would read it and share it with all my sisters and my mom:)

Thank you for sharing your heart with us! I wanted to tell you about my friend, Dawn and why I think she deserves a new purse. Dawn has 7 children. She is a Godly woman and is truly a Proverbs 31 wife. She has been through so much..a house fire that destroyed everything, a husband who had surgery last week for kidney stones, a trip to the ER for one of the kids that required stitches..I could go on and on. But..she never, ever does anything for herself...I think she would be tickled to receive a purse. Thank you for considering it..if I weren't headed off to work now..I would write more about Dawn and how amazing she is...thanks again!

HI I would love to win a bag for my sister. She is the best mother an sacrafices so much for her children (something we all tend to do) that fashion and taking care of her from a fashonista standpoint is pushed to the bsck burner. I took her shopping on my last trip to SC, we had an awesome time, I could see in her eyes that she would like to have more current items, I wanted to buy her everything but I also have a limited budget. We had fun I pushed and encouraged her to buy the right size (she's dropped about 15 lbs) got her some pants, a couple purses (B. Mac included) and a couple tops so a new "it" bag will top it all off (punn intended). LOL

I am encouraged by your ministry and thank you for allowing God to use you. I know the blog says if my sister is chosen I will win too however, if at all possible and proper I'd like for my bag to be given to another friend of one of the posters.

Dear Shari,
You end your blog with truth: "You're a beauty because God says you are!" That is a truth I have been relentlessly sharing with my Mom to encourage her... and the reason I would love my Mom to win a new handbag!

The past several years have been quite a challenge for my Mom. She's walked through the death of both of her parents and the loss of a job she loves, but, most significantly, she's walked through a painful illness with her husband, my Dad. About eight years ago, my Dad was diagnosed with Bi-Polar disorder after many, many years of struggle. Though the diagnosis provided peace and direction, it has not eliminated the every-day issues that continue to arise because of this disease. My Dad has not been able to maintain a full-time job in that time, has gone through many medication changes, and has required a lot of money for doctor visits, insurance, and counseling sessions. As with any mental-health disease, my Dad, at times, has not been easy to love. But, my Mom has never wavered in her commitment to my Dad and their marriage. When many friends and family members, including friends from the Body of Believers, have been judgmental and critical, when some have even encouraged her to seek divorce and "start her life over," she has reminded them that she married my Dad with a vow of "'til death," and, just like cancer or any other illness, she loves him in "sickness and in health." She has continued to sacrifice her desires and her needs in the pursuit of making my Dad healthy again and loving him through this trial, and I cannot think of a woman who better embodies a servant heart so focused on Jesus better than my Mom! (What an incredible example to me, as a new wife, to see my parents celebrate 36 years of marriage this summer!)

Of course, these sacrifices include my Mom's willingness to make herself feel beautiful. She no longer cuts her hair in the way she loves, she no longer purchases her skin-care and make-up products, and she hasn't purchased a new item of clothing for herself in many years. She's lost almost 40 pounds in the past year, and she continues to wear her old clothes without complaint because she realizes that, financially, she and my Dad can't afford to spend extra money on her clothing. Though my Mom is a beautiful woman-- inside and out-- I know she feels much, much less than the beautiful, fragrant offering she is!

I would love my Mom to win this handbag so she can receive a gift that helps make her feel beautiful again. I would love to see her encouraged, to see her receive a little bit in return for what she constantly gives to others, especially her family. I would love to surprise my Mom with something special and see her smile!

Thank you so much for this opportunity to honor a woman I love and respect so much for her Christ-centered heart and servant-focused spirit.

Hi, I am so happy I visited your blog when i saw that there is an opportunity to win handbags for a friend and for me. The reason my friend should be chosen to recieve a handbag is because she is the most giving person I have ever meet and i will like to be able to give her something of real value for her true generousity. Apart from that she is presently building her home and has alot of expenses which makes purchasing new clothes etc a big sacrifice because she also has two small children.
This however is does not stop her from giving. My girlfriend always brings something for when we meet for church. It may be a bottle of homemade jam or clothes her children grew out of, but she always has something to give. OO and she does not forget birthdays, anniversaries and visit whenever I am ill. Not an exam passes by and she does'nt call or text to say good luck and give encouraging words. Sometimes i feel bad because i have not brought her something in return, or give to her the way she gives to me and my family. Ayanna is an amazing friend and deserves the best.
I love you Ayanna

Hey Shari,

I would give the bag to my sister-in-law Anna. She just turned forty this year and has two young children at home with her. She's one of those gals with a gentle and quiet spirit - very humble and self-depracating. She wouldn't know where to begin to choose a new purse (so she could use your advice), but my heart is smiling just thinking of her joy if she was presented with something stylish. She both needs and deserves it.

Thanks for the great post! Of course, love the CAbi looks and the notion to STOP WEARING T-SHIRTS! I never wear them...and needed to wear one to do some dirty work - I will admit, I wore one of my husband's tees. Shhhh! Don't tell anyone! I promise, I didn't leave home!

I would love to give a purse to my friend Kim. She lives in Milwaukee, and she and her husband just found out that their 10 year old daughter is fighting cancer for the 3rd time. A year ago we thought she was healed...

It is Ewing Sarcomia (and I know I didn't spell that right). Bone cancer, in her leg and shoulder. She doesn't want anyone to know because she doesn't want to be treated differently.

Her Dad (my friend's husband) is starting a fund to help her get some 'creature comfort' kinds of things for the long battle of surgeries and chemo that lies ahead. One of the things on this list is a good wig...hey, I just had a new idea - I want to give the purse to her (Jessy) for her to put all her stuff in...as she travels to and from the hospital, and to get a new wig...she can do it in style!

Tell ya what, if you pick my name out of the hat, I'll give my purse to Kim, so they both get one!

Good morning and blessings to you and the ministry. My Friend Denise was in the Healing place for women for the last 12 months it is a place for women who desire a change in life. She has had many struggles but through God she has overcome many. For instance she had a situation come up and she had to leave the Healing Place for about a month she found her a rooming house -which was not in a good area and she stayed cleaned and sober with all the temptations surrounding her. When she was allowed to go back (HP) because the program is in steps she had to start back in the basic shelter part with the new ladies coming in this was hard. Before she left she had a room. She used this opportunity to share with the ladies coming in off the street about her journey and why she was back in the shelter. God is so good I am in her life because of the Love God has for us all-I know that but for the Grace of God it could be me. I believe Denise would like a new purse to continue on this journey. She moved out from the Healing place about a week ago and now shares an apartment with another young lady. God is so good. Continue to keep Denise in your prayers.

My daughter (and friend) Dana really deserves a new handbag! She has had a lot of changes in the past year of her young life. She got married in January, then saw her husband off to military basic training, found out she is pregnant, and moved twice. That second move took her 7 hours away from her Mama (and here in the South we like to stay close to our Mamas) at a time when she really needs Mama most. Now she's looking at a future that includes her husband being deployed overseas soon after the birth of her daughter, due in October. Winning a new handbag for her would be a neat way for me to let her know that Mama loves and misses her every single day.

I would love to win a handbag for my friend Susie because we keep getting our purses mixed up at church! Soooo many times we sit close together at choir practice or in church or meet each other at the coat rack and we SERIOUSLY have to double and triple check our handbags because they are almost always nearly identical! This has happened many times, even though we purchase new handbags several times a year! We don't shop together, but maybe we should! Then we'd be able to tell our purses from the other! Our tastes are sooooo similar...it's kinda funny! But seriously...it's been a few months since we've bought bags, she could use a new one! (me too.) :)

Shari,
I love your posts!! I've just become an AVON Rep. and you inspired me!!. Now, back to that handbag. I'd love to win one for my VERY practical friend. She has been single for almost 30 years and is an organizing fool!! She works so hard at a Stone Quarry (she loves to blast but is mostly confined to the office.) She is Mom to most of the workers there and Grandma to their kids. Her heart is breaking for one of her quarry kids for he is suffering sooo with a rare cancer. As I write this I can't be sure he is still with us. Please pray for Chris and his family. Last weekend was my friend's birthday and Chris was there and went straight to the hospital afterward. My friend could use a lift.

First I would like to say that it makes me giggle when I read some of your sentences and can invision you saying them and not taking a breath because you are so excited you just have to get it out. It brings me joy!

My BFF is Lisa. She is a godly woman who has the kindest heart and the most gracious spirit. Lisa has raised 4 fantastic kids on her own. She has always devoted herself to their needs.

She always works in the youth and children's department at church and serves a mentor to a young wife. She is amazing!!!

I pointed out to her the other day that she was single and you would have thought it was the first time she had thought of it. Her youngest is now 19 and she has done her job well.

She's as cute as a button but always takes care of others first and never really thinks of herself. She could really use a "pick me up". What screams pick me up more than a new purse? Especially one picked out by a professional.

Thanks for the joy!

My sister Wendy needs a new handbag. The one she carries looks like a diaper bag and her kids are now 10 and 13. No more diaper bag please!

Jody Walker said...

My daughter (Kayla) deserves a new handbag for a variety of reasons. First, she is the mother of a very busy almost-two-year old son and usually carries his diaper bag... that should be reason enough!
Joking aside, she is one of the strongest women I know. She became pregnant her senior year in high school, moved in with her boyfriend, broke up with her boyfriend, and moved home with the baby - all within the course of less than a year. Moving back home was pivotal for Kayla, as she recommitted her life to Christ shortly afterward and started making choices that would forever impact her son - as well as her own life. She enrolled in college full-time to pursue a nursing degree and has committed herself to being the best example for and mother to her son.
Through all of these changes, God has blessed her efforts and her determination. This past July she married a wonderful man and, although they often struggle to make ends meet, they have chosen to make raising their son and Kayla's education priorities. Kayla stays home with their precious bundle of energy during the day while her husband works, and he cares for their son while she attends classes full-time in the evenings.
Rarely does Kayla buy things for herself, instead she uses the money for the things her son and her family need. She never complains about doing without nor did she complain she was a single mother. She has embraced motherhood and loves her little boy with everything she is. She gives with her entire heart to those who are in need, never expecting anything in return. I would love to see her receive something just for her (okay, she'd probably put a few diapers in it too...), especially since she won't do it for herself.

I'd love to win a handbag for my sister, Donna. She's always been all about fashion and clothes. When I got home from She Speaks, I let her borrow Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad for a couple of days while she kept my boys. When I got to her house to pick up the boys and the book, she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her own copy and her "soft" color swatches. Her monumental problem is that she owned A LOT of BLACK!!! Including her handbags! She'd be ecstatic to win a new purse in a color and style that suits her!

I instantly thought of my friend Sara when I read this giveaway. When I met her a couple of years ago, she didn't even own a purse which 'did not compute' in my brain since I change purses several times a week. She said, "I have a backpack type purse." Another friend and I were like no, that's not a purse. I think we guilted Sara into buying one and she bought this tiny over the shoulder one in black. Shortly after that she bought one in brown. So that was her purse collection. Sad, I know. Now she has one more that is pretty big (for her) that she found at Walmart for three dollars. It's black. Hey she's venturing out by buying that larger one but I think it's time for spectacular! She's ready, when I met her she was was wearing steel toed shoes to church, her work shoes. Now she's wearing shoes that show off her pedicure'd toes! She's buying clothes at Macy's and getting her hair highlighted. Which brings me to that third friend I mentioned earlier, she's our hairdresser too. She is always sporting spectacular purses she gets from her sister. I'm talking Coach, Brighton, the newest styles at that! So I think Sara and I deserve this handbag giveaway, don't you? One last thing about Sara, she's amazing friend and sister in Christ. She and her husband are such a blessing to everyone. I am honored to call her friend.

Honestly I'd love a new handbag for my friend Amy. She is a great lady, she just doesn't believe in herself. She is married to a man who has cheated and has a son who has hit her. She is really resisting the truth about what to do (counseling, etc). She is a nurse, she has a lot going for her... She is a Christian, but hasn't turned to God on these issues. Recently her favorite handbag was stolen while she was walking at the park. She's a mess right now and can use your prayers and a new handbag.

Hi, Shari,
My mom truly deserves a new handbag. She and my dad went into full-time ministry 10 years ago--leaving a comfortable, secure life with a very good salary--to the adventure of trusting God daily for their provision. She is a fantastic lady! As a preacher's wife, she teaches Sunday School, Junior Church and two ladies' Bible studies during the week. She runs the church office and assists my dad with his counseling sessions and visitation. I would love to see her "sporting" a stylish bag that could hold her ministry needs--tissues, a book to give away and her "essentials" too. Thanks so much!

I would like to give my daughter, Janie, a new handbag. She is a young Mom, turning 30 in October, and she is probably one of my biggest inspirations. Between the loss of a child and their business burning down, her faith has never waviered. I have watched her and her husband stand strong in the Lord, even though hurting, declaring that God is their strength and their hope.
She is a stay at home mom, VBS coordinator, Sunday School teacher, farm wife and mother to 3 beautiful red headed children. While being devoted to their church, they also have time to serve on the county's Farm Bureau. She keeps up a blog where she shares messages of inspiration and family life. I am amazed how strong she is and even though I am 22 years older, she teaches me so much about how to live and share my life in Christ.

I would love for my friend and co-worker, Patti, to receive a new, cool purse. Patti has lost a significant amount of weight over the last year and a half and is looking fab. But, in the last few months had complications from what should have been a minor surgery and ended up in and out of the hospital and is still not up to par. So, with medical bills and such, buying new clothes from the weight loss and especially a new purse is very difficult. She is a real inspiration to me.

Best wishes to whoever wins and I would love it if pictures could be posted of the purses chosen.

Shari,
Loved your devotion today. I'm heading over to the other post after this. Honestly, most of my friends have better handbags than I do, but I would gladly give one to my friend Jennifer who is starting a new full time job this year after being a stay at home mom for 13 years. For me, all of my handbags are either hand me downs, (stuff people were getting rid of) or recycled things that I use as handbags (cute bags that are gift with purchase or have bath and body works stuff in them instead of a gift basket). Also for the longest ime I didn't even carry a handbag. I would carry a tote bag with stuff for my kids in it, then just throw my wallet and keys in there with their stuff. They are older now so I probably don't need to do that anymore.

Anyway, thanks for the devotion and chance to win.

I'm new to the blog and I have really been inspired. I've tried to find devotions that will get me through. Thank you for this. I would like to give my cousin a handbag. She has been through so much. It seems as though when she tries to move forward she get's pushed back. She loves purses as much as I do. She always makes comments like"one day I'm going to buy me a good purse." I really would like for her to see the hand of God and know that he has never left her. This would be a great inspiration to her and to me. I thank you for this opportunity.

Great devotion today. I'm the large handbag. I also carry one around and I could feel the pain of finding my keys in my purse. I'm going to clean it out and make it right at the same time clean out my inside and make it right. This really hit home for me.

HI! I am coming from Proverbs 31 devotional. I truly enjoyed it! It made me think alot!

I would like to give a new purse to my pastor's wife, Irene.

She is always doing for others, especially kids. She helps all kids as much as possible, but especially the girls.

Many times, she goes and purchases great purses for the girls...young ones and teen ones. Just yesterday, her and the pastor took my daughter out to eat...and you guessed it, she gave her an awesome new purse.

To some it doesn't seem much...but I know many of the kids she helps and it means alot. She doesn't do it for recognition, but for the joy of seeing others happy and to sow a few more seeds for God.

I think it would be a blessing to be able to give back to her just a lil bit of what she has been giving.

Thanks and God Bless,
Stephanie

Shari,
I would really like to win this. The person that I would give the purse to is my sister, Wilma. She has such a loving heart, but for quiet sometime she has put God aside. She has had a lot of disappointments in her life and life has been hard for her. But, she is always so encouraging and supportive to others. She loves handbags. Actually,a few weeks back
I went to my mothers and she was there. I was carrying a new handbag(clearance -$4.00). She commented about how she liked my new purse and said " I am soo glad that you finally got rid of that ugly yellow one that you were carrying."
She checks out everyones handbags. I love her so much, this would be so encouraging to her.

My friend is my daughter. She and her husband are stepping out in faith this year and she has resigned from teaching high school chemistry to staying home with her three little ones 5,3 and 8 months. They are trusting God to provide - her husband is self employed. I would like for her to have a new bag. Thank you!
We are both reading your book and love it!

I would love to nominate my wonderful stepmother for a new handbag. She's been through a lot in the last two years, with my two little brothers being taken away because of a doctors error. They are home now, but she had to spend two years without them. The whole time she was without them, she kept her faith deeply rooted in God. She didn't let anything get her too far down, because she knew the Lord was at work. She was faithful and He provided. She hasn't bought a new anything since this whole ordeal started and I know she would love a new handbag. She's been my rock even when things got bad...she's my hero.

Shari, I love to read your devotions and I would love for my friend Pam to win a handbag. She is a single mom, she has struggled for years to provide for her son and herself, she works full-time but for little more than minimum wage. (Raises are few and far between.) She loves the Lord and she is always trying to help others, either with a card of encouragement or lending her ear. While there is nothing wrong with shopping at Goodwill or a local garage sale, I would love for her to have a brand new bag purchased especially for her. She would be so surprised and grateful.

My sister-in-law, Terry, usually has a nice simple purse, it usually has the proper contents, with her calendar book inside neatly diplaying a well planned life.

I, on the other hand, always need a new purse, my old one fell apart or got stained or is too small - usually because of an impulsive buy. I want my life to be more organized and focused, simpler at times, less scattered. I want to always carry God with me in whatever purse I carry, it's always with me when I leave home, I want God to be too. I suffer from anxiety and as soon as I leave my home, so many fears can flood in. I need something to hold onto that will help keep my focus simple, purposeful, hopeful and with God always on my calendar. I need more than a Coach bag - I need a "Life Coach", because I flounder on my own!

I would like to win a purse for Liz, who is in my Bible study. I don't know Liz very well. She doesn't bring a purse to Bible study, so maybe she just doesn't care for them. But I know her life is tough. She is taking care of grandkids, trying to maintain a house which apparently doesn't like to be maintained, and trying to stay healthy all on a limited budget. A new purse is always good for what ails me, so I hope a new purse would help put a smile on the day for her, too. :-)

Wow, after reading all the comments I see how blessed I am. However, I would love to see my sister-in-law Gertrude win a free handbag. We (her family as well as ours) have been going through some tough times these last couple of years and we are all broke. Just to "get" something once in awhile to lift our spirits would be so awesome. I know we are not here for ourselves but for God's glory but when you get so low, it's nice to get a little high. There are so many ladies out there who deserve it more but I thought I would leave me comment too. Thanks for the devotional Shari and when I can find a job, and finally buy some clothes - I will know where to come to get motivated. Nanci at kelbla@aol.com

I would like to win a handbag for my sweet daughter-in-law, Tara. She is a godly wife andstay at home mom to two precious little boys, plus she gives of herself to disciple young college students as she serves alongside her husband in campus ministry. A new handbag is a luxury she would not go out and indulge in. But I IKNOW she would love to have one. What an awesome gift this would be.

Thanks for your insight and tips about tshirts. I always come away from your posts feeling more empowered about dressing well on a budget while looking stylish and confident. God bless you, girl!

I totally relate to your P31 devo today. I'm a bit (ok maybe more than a bit) OCD about my handbag. When it gets overstuffed or disorganized I usually drop whatever I am doing, dump it out, and re-organize it. Unfortunately I sometimes do the same with my time with the Lord. I allow other distractions to clog up my day and before I know it, I've locked my door and turned off the light in hopes that I won't be interrupted so that I can cry out to God. I know this is not how it should be. Thank you for pointing this out today. And now about the t-shirts...Ughhhh. I totally agree with this too!! I feel so much better when I opt for a blouse that is much more stylish. The confidence factor is huge for me. When I feel better about what I have on, I feel stronger and more secure.

I would love to give my friend who is about to have a baby a handbag. You just can't carry around a small purse when you have a baby!!

Shari,

The person that I would want to win a handbag is my seventeen year old daughter, Lauren. She has been my rock since she was born, I think. I was seventeen when I found out that I was pregnant with her and had her exactly one month before my eighteenth birthday. She's always been a joy to me. We are about to begin a new journey in our lives as mother and daughter as she graduates high school in December and embarks on her college life. Lauren has faced adversity in her young life with an absent father, but she has always had grace and faithfulness in her heavenly Father. Everyday I stand in awe of how God uses her to touch so many people. If she wins a fashionable purse, that would be awesome, but if she isn't chosen...she will still be the most beautiful, fashionable person I know because of the presence of God that she carries inside.

Dear Shari,

First off I want to tell you how much I look forward to your blog!! I can't wait for Wednesday's so I can read it. I can hardly wait for your newsletter to come out so I can check out the fall fashions. I have devoured your book and tagged all the pages that pertain to my body type and style so I know how to shop intentionally for myself. I even bought another book so I can share it with my Mom and girlfriends! :)

I would love to nominate my Mom and best friend Patty for a new purse. Mom has been my biggest supporter and has sacrificed so much for me. She has always been a "style fashioniesta" and has recently lost 50 pounds and working hard to improve her health all while taking care of her own mother who has been diagnosed with cancer. My best gal pal Patty is such a wonderful Godly woman - her friendship has blessed me so much and I would love to be able to bless her. She has been thru the fire these last few years with a huge loss in her family but she keeps her eyes on Jesus and is such an encourager and testimony for God's goodness.

I truly do not need a purse for myself, I would be more blessed by being able to bless these wonderful women in my life.

Thank you Shari for encouraging us and sharing your wealth of knowledge with us, you are a huge blessing to so many!
Much love and thanks!

I just wanted to leave a comment on your devotion today - I like the visual of the purses very much! (I will keep that in my file).

Also reading about the t-shirts - hit me in the face. Ever since I started reading your blog and your book -- which was only a month ago -- I only have worn my t-shirts for exercising! That is not like me at all because I work for the Laborer's Union as their secretary and I thought one of the benefits was wearing them and jeans while I work. Well now I wear colorful clothes, jewelry (never thought I would do that),and I love the feeling of being all woman! Thank you for posting some "shirts" to look for to wear in the fall!!!

I would love to win a handbag for my friend/cousin Denise Drake. She recently lost her brother in a very sudden death. He was at home and just fell over. He was such a great man this has left an emptiness in many lives. This has also left her as an only child. She is so broken-hearted but tries to hide her emotion in order to be strong for her parents. She is carrying such an emotional load, but always has time to ask about others. Her parent's 50th wedding anniversary is in Oct. and she will be hosting their party alone. Please honor her with this new handbag. I know this will lift her spirits and she so deserves it!

Dear Shari,
Today was my first time reading your blog. I have the day off (I have the joy of working Saturday) and while reading my Encouragement for the Day, I finally read the stuff at the bottom of the page and found the link to your blog. While I have never read a blog, (I know, mind boggling) I have to say yours is enjoyable..Anyhoo, to the point. My mother deserves to have someone give a try to win this purse. To my knowledge, she has only owned 1 purse that she didn't buy at the thrift store. The only reason was because I purchased it for her when I was working at Wilsons Leather. She is the most loving, God fearing woman I know. In my struggles with my faith, she has been by my side to help encourage me & keep me seeking God. She is a great example of someone who shines her light regardless of her situation.
Thanks for your time, Phebe

I would love for my sister Debi to have a great handbag. She has such a servant's heart, and always puts others first. Her life has been filled with heartaches and struggles; she lost her 46-yr old husband to a massive heart attack one Easter morning; both her sons have had major life struggles which she has supported them through; she recently lost her job when the state eliminated her program, in which she was doing home visits to impoverished young single mothers, teaching them how to properly care for their babies and how to do basic housekeeping and cooking. She is a treasure to all who know her, and she would just be thrilled with such a girly gift that she cannot turn around and spend on an electric bill.

I would love to start by saying my friend Nidia Gonzales deserves to win. I met Nidia in January, i had started working at this new company. I moved from Maine to Massachusetts because my teenage son began a spiral of out of control behavior. I moved closer to family, because I wasnt able to work in Maine and still get my son treatment. So here I was at a new company, and Nidia was my warm welcome. I was also a Christian at this time, but also going through so many ups and downs with my son. She has been my cheerleader at work! She is a woman of God, and is always praising his name at work, and encouraging me daily. We have decided to have our lunches with Jesus, emailing each other bible verses, and Godly wisdom for the day. Nidia is truly an amazing person. She has made it easy to come to work at a place that is so negative at times. I feel like Jesus put her there because he knew with all the negativity and struggles I was having in my personal life, I needed to be able to come to work each day, and be strengthened in his word, and his love. Nidia is a beautiful friend and I am so very lucky we were brought together by Him.

Hey Shari!

Thank you for all the wonderful information you share with us all!!! You would not believe the difference just a small thing like adjusting our bras has done for me and the women "within my reach". lol

Just wanted to share a bit with you about my friend & daughter, Kaycee. First of all she is a lover of handbags!! As a teenager we had to institute the "NO new purses" rule for her! But, most of all why I think she could use a new handbag right now is that she had stepped away from God a bit in life when she went away to college and has recently began to find her way back to Him. She had left college for a time, but is set to start back in September. She is 20 years old and now has a 9 month old little girl. She has seen how important it is to live her life close to God, get an education and make the best of situations. She is trying hard and is just seeming overwhelmed a bit. Thought this new bag would give her a little boost, and give her a nice bag for starting school.

Thank for all you do for His kingdom and His girls!! :O)

Today I would like to nominate my girlfriend Kathi to receive your handbag. Neither of us have ever purchased a handbag. We simply use those given to us by others. We often laugh about it. The simple truth is, I miss my dear friend and she has been going through many struggles physically and emotionally lately. Receiving such a gift would be such an encouragement to her even when we live so far apart.

Most of all, thank you so much for writing an encouraging blog as we serve Jesus together!

Dear Shari,
I was going to leave a comment to get a friend a handbag but some of these comments are for people who don't have the finances themselves, so you know what, I think they deserve it more :) Anyways, just a note to let you know how refreshing it is to see your Christian viewpoint on what we wear. We don't need to be trendy but for the sakes of our husbands, our kids, and our very own eyes, we do need to make an effort to look nice. It really makes a difference in our attitudes / how we feel when we know we look pretty and our husbands will appreciate the effort and we'd be a great role model for other girls (young and old). And just to be clear - I'm not talking becoming a shopaholic. Thank you for getting the message out! I've actually been feeling guilty for looking nice when everyone else looks dumpy! Can you believe it?

I think a handbag would be the very thing needed to perk my sister-in-law, Kelley, right up. Kelley deserves to win simply because she makes my life easier by being in it. Not only do we share the same name only spelled different, our last name is the same too...since we married brothers. Kelley is a spit-fire and will go to bat for anyone she loves and that kind of loyalty is second to none in today's world.

I would like to give a handbag to my friend Candy. She is undergoing treatment for breast cancer and has lost all her hair. And winning something would lift her spirits even more.

Hi Shari,
Thank you for blessing me with today's inspirational message! I happen to be a "t-shirt collection" type of gal, wearing one now as a matter of fact :(
I guess since the birth of my baby (8 months ago) I've felt less "pretty" and more "functional". Reading your blog has encouraged me to weed out my dresser drawers and to focus on finding a bit of style. As far as nominating someone to receive a handbag...my dear friend, Tracy is a perfect candidate. She is a 5-year survivor of several brain aneurysms. Although Tracy is struggling with being out of work and having to depend on family members, she is arguably the most positive and spiritual person I know. Tracy is a source of strength for everyone she touches, but could use some encouragement herself these days.

Several people come to mind as I sit and think of who I would choose to give a new handbag to. But if I truly think of who deserves one, it would be my dear friend and mentor, Melanie. She and her husband (though I am not sure he would carry the handbag) give so much of their time to a group of "young married couples." Each week they pour themselves into not just teaching a Sunday School lesson, but in investing into each couples lives. She is a wonderful example of what it means to live a Godly life as a wife, mother, and friend. It is appropriate that she be chosen for this as she has beautiful style and always fits the idea that "Good girls don't have to dress bad." It would be an honor to be able to tell Melanie that she has been chosen for a handbag.

I would love for my friend, Christie, to win a purse. Her and I attended the National Hearts at Home conference in '08 and really bonded that weekend. It was a life changing experience for me and I am so grateful that Christie got to share that with me. We both attended your workshop and got our colors. She is considered a ROCK STAR! Sadly, I moved across the country later that year and we just don't get to hang out and shop or have lunch like we used to. I would love for her to get a purse in honor of our weekend at Hearts at Home.

I would love for my daughter, Colleen, to have a new handbag. She carries this military green purse that drives me nuts. I do understand though...LOL. She is a soon to be 17 year old and carries her life in this bag. It has to have room for what ever book she is reading for when we get in the car. It must also contain several items of a personal nature along with the deodorant! I know if I can't find the deodorant it is located in her purse. She deserves something special and youthful!

Cheryl was the caregiver for my Father until his death 5 years ago then become the caregiver for my Mother who has multiple health issues, including loss of a leg. My sister has sacrificed her life for our parents and NEVER does anything for herself! Their income is limited to my Mom's social security and whatever my sisters and I can give each month to help out. Her purse is pathetic! I've offered to give her one of mine but she will not accept it. I've even offered to go buy her a new one, but she says she does not need it and don't waste the money. I met her on her first visit to our church at the coffee pot in the front lobby- I handed her a cup as I was pouring creamer into my cup. She had watched our church on tv and decided to finally come in person. I am so glad she did! In the past year Patricia has lost her Mom and her Aunt, has another Aunt that has cancer living with her. Patricia is a lovely single lady who God sent into our lives, and we are so glad He did. She comes over to a small group at our house each Tuesday. God knew we both needed a good Christian friend - and I am so glad to have her. ~ Julie

I totally agree on getting rid of the t-shirts. I quit wearing them except as pajamas a couple of years ago. You can find t-shirt material with much nicer fit lots of places these days. I like a pretty v-neck or something with some ruching.

As for the handbag, I would love to nominate my friend Sarah.
She just had her first baby about a month ago. Things are going well but as any Moms know, the first few months can be challenging. Her family lives in Hawaii, so they are having to save up to make the long/expensive trip later in the year. Sarah would love to have her Mom with her right now. Sarah and her husband are a one car family and that car is on it's deathbed. It just completely stopped on the way to church last week. Her husband works and Sarah will stay at home with the baby and teach piano lessons out of their home. So, they need to be frugal in finding an affordable car. She is the most humble, Christ centered lady I've met in a long time. She is always looking out for others and offering help and kindness in any way she can. She would be so appreciative of a beautiful new purse.

Hi Shari,

This is my first time dropping by your blog (Via Proverbs 31) and I just really love your fashion encouragement for Godly women along with your resources available...

I wanted to enter my Mom in the win a handbag contest... My mom has been a devoted Christian woman who is a stay at home mom and homeschooled both me and my sister through graduation. She's an amazing woman who loves my sister and I despite our many goof-ups, always has an immaculate house, encouraging word. I know I can go to her with anything and I hope someday I'll be half the mom she is. She's celebrating 29 years of marriage to my father this weekend and I'm so proud of her and happy God chose her to be my mother!

My friend is my sister Denise. She is a single mom. She owns and manages a 10 chair hair salon. She is doing ok in her business, but only because she is an amazing business woman and she often defers cashing her own paycheck to cover the operating costs of the salon. These are tough times to be in the hair salon business in Ohio. I help her when I can. She really has no money left at the end of the month to spend on herself. She is so sweet and generous, all of her customers LOVE her. She makes people feel better about themselves all day long. I love to watch the transformations from when people walk in often times with a heavy-step to when they walk out of the salon, BIG smile, head held high and a renewed vigor in their steps. What a gift she gives and gives and gives. She has displayed this gift for making people look and feel beautiful since she was 5 years old, when she would beg to brush our hair (my mom's and me and my two sisters')-- sitting behind us on the couch. To this day, 30-something years later as the owner of her own salon she is still making people feel and look beautiful. I would love to be able to have Prov 31 gift her a new handbag, in some small way to help her to feel the same BEAUTIFUL way she makes/has made so many others feel. Thanks. God bless.

I would love to give my mom a new handbag! She is my inspiration. I joke, that I'm becoming just like her (oh no!), but I can't think of a better role model. Right now she is in need of a pick me up. She has been caring for her aging parents for years now. My grandmother died of Alzheimer's a couple of years back, and since then she has been caring for my grandpa. Trying to keep him from giving up on life without Grandma. She just went thru the process of cleaning out and selling my grandparents house (Grandpa is in assisted living). That really told her that Grandpa is not much longer for this world. So please encourage her with a new purse this week. Thanks. Barb

I could make this long long long or short and sweet I opt to go short and sweet (I HOPE). You see when I think on this person it is hard for me not to cry, swell with pride and know that I serve and awesome God. So who is this person that brings out such emothion in me, it is my daughter. She is not only a beautiful mom and wife but support to all around her not only to ones she knows but to those she might not ever meet. One Example: a prayer request came out to many from a missionary friend of ours for a little girl in Mexico with cleft palate and dying due to not being able to eat. My daughter was moved to make a couple of phone calls and send some e-mails, God moved mountains and 2 yrs later and several surgeies that little girl is growing and beautiful.

Now to the story I really want to share. She has been tested in many many ways but she has always remained strong in her faith and love for Jesus. I will share only the one test that no one would ever want to go through and that is the loss of a husband. Back seven years ago her husband got out of the shower and sat on bed and he called her and told her he was not feeling well.. being a diabetic she felt he was having a diabetic reaction and she prepared for that. In a short time she was calling 911 as he laid lifeless on the floor. He had had a massive brainstem hemmorage. He remained on life support for several days then the decision was made by daughter and his parents (notice this she thought of his parents), which his Mom had buried another single son many years ago, to shut off the life support, within minutes it was over. Daughter was left with two beautiful girls to raise ages 18 mo. and 5 yrs.

She has remained a Godly Young Lady through it all and has made sure that these little girls have seen God in all. She is now remarried to a Godly Man and they have had a little girl.. What is so swell the knew husband and the deceased husbands Parents get along so great and share holidays and celebrations together and he is a great Father to the 3 girls he has been given to rear.

Well I did say the short version aren't you glad it was not the long one ha ha..

One last fact the day of the viewing, my husband her dad, at 7:30 a.m. suffered the first of several heart attacks to come. He is still with us though and that is another God thing, after his stroke last year. God is on the throne of all our lives.

IN HIM I LIVE AND TAKE EVERY BREATHE... Thanks for the opportunity to share my heart of this special young lady and MY BEST FRIEND!!

I would like to win a purse for my mom. She is waiting for biopsy results and dealing with my sister keeping her only grandson away from her (because my sister is mad at her for letting my brother call her on being negative). She hasn't seen him for 8 weeks and she was used to seeing him every single day for his entire 7 1/2 year life. She and Dad divorced several years ago when she found out he was having a 20-year-long affair, so she is single. She is searching for happiness and God is knocking on her heart's door.
She could use a new handbag because she doesn't buy nice things for herself.
Thank you and God bless your ministry!

I'd love to win a handbag for my wonderful friend Katie. She just gave birth to her 3 and 4 children two weeks ago. Since they were born at 35 weeks the twins were in the NIC Unit. Her son had to stay in the hospital for just under a week after Katie and her daughter got released due to some feeding issues. Katie and her husband drove back and forth every day to the hospital with their daughter to be there with their son as well. Katie's strong faith in our Lord kept her going, and she is an inspiration to me. I cannot think of someone more deserving of a new purse right now!

I would love to give a bag to my dear sister-in-law who lost her daughter-in-law earlier this year. They were very close and talked on the phone daily. My sister-in-law is having a difficult time and at times, her grief overwhelms her. She works very hard to help her son and her granddaughter and sacrifices a lot to make sure they are OK. She has a strong faith and I love her very much. thank you.

Hey Shari!!

I love what you've said in this post! I pre-ordered your book awhile ago and read it through in 3 days going through it step by step and I jsut LOVE IT! I actually had to go through my closet 3 times to make sure I wasn't holding on to anything I didn't need (Which of course i was). I did keep some things because they are youthful (Im 16 after all hehe) but they are still modest! Modesty and Inner Beauty are my possions (Along with teen girls hehe) so your book really helped me and made me want top do more...so thanks girly!!!!

Hi Shari, I'm new to blogging but a devout follower for years. I would like to nominate my sister-in-law, Amy who is yet a great inspiration in our life although divorced. Despite her ongoing battle with several illnesses (including her sons) and other financial circumstances Amy is a dedicated believer and counselor to many others including myself.

I believe and know a new purse would brighten her day even more. It's the little things that do so much to inspire and encourage just as Encouragement for Today.

God bless you and all involved
my sister. Much Luv, gAngelp

I came to your blog from the Proverbs 31 daily devotional you wrote. Your message was so perfectly timed for me. I would love to nominate my friend, Pam, for the handbag giveaway. Pam is the mother of 3 girls ages 3-8 so all fashion funds go to the girls while Pam stretches her dollars with coupons and hits the rummage sales and Goodwill racks for herself. Last weekend, she told me her goal for this fall is to find a way to get her life and home organized because she is continually stressed out by the chaos and "just can't take it anymore". We often commiserate together because our homes are constantly in the state of that shopper's handbag that you described in the Proverbs 31 devotional. With the stress we constantly feel, we recognize our need for more time in the Word and have been brainstorming ways to do this together as a way encourage each other to be consistent in our quiet time. I think the handbags would be a great symbol for both of us of our renewed commitment to eliminate the choas that constantly creeps in and pushes out God. Every time we reach for our handbag we will have a visual reminder to "be still" and keep each other accountable to check that our insides match our outsides.

Dear Shari,

I was very encouraged by your devotion topic today. Sometimes we don't understand what a person goes through because they hide everything inside their purse. Last Sunday, i had a real discussion with my younger sister Becky about what she learned while she was away at a Christian teenage camp. She explained how all of the youth from our church bonded and grew closer to the LORD. In addition, she began to open to me about she went through and it became one of the most honest and heart-felt conversations we've had. I'd like to give her bag to show how much I love her and appreciate her, but most importantly that God isn't finished working on her. God bless.

I would love to give a purse to my dear friend April Schrader. She is in full time ministry running a home for women and children. She has an amazing testimony and I am blessed any time I get to spend time with her, simply because she speaks from the heart. And her heart is close to Jesus. Now, that I'm done bragging on her, here's why she needs a purse, she doesn't carry one! She needs to be "girl a fied!" Help me out:) Glory, Jenn Parker

I absolutely loved your blog today. I actually asked my coworkers if they thought you wrote this about me. I usually carry a big purse and can never find my keys in them. I think my friend Rhonda could prob. use a new purse. Because she can't afford one? NO! Because she usually buys the ones that are practical. The ones with all the "Right" pockets for all her stuff. She doesn't buy herself alot because she would rather spend her money on her beautiful daughter That I love to death, and I try to claim when she lets me. I would like her to have a purse that is so unexpected of her. One that says wow instead of "I know exactly where every thing is in my purse at any given moment because it has a pocket". :)

Oh my sister in law so deserves to win one. She is the most selfless person I know. She is the one person I can say I know who lives Christ message every day and in every thing she says, does, and thinks of others. She is what holds our family together and she does without so her sons, nieces and nephews can have. She never thinks of herself. Because of her our family is truly blessed and we all strive to honor her by following in her actions.

Hi Shari! I just love each and every one of your posts every Wednesday. It's a highlight of my week!!
There's a lot of great posts that I think would love a purse, but I'm just going to give it a shot anyway. :) I'm going to nominate my mom because her purses are so OLD and WORN and discolored and broken, etc. etc. I think she would LOVE a new purse and be blessed by one. She has six kids to buy things for, so she rarely gets things for herself. So if you would consider my mom, that would be great!
You're such a blessing Shari! Love ya!

My dear friend JANE deserves to win a new handbag because ---- she just truly is a sincere and good person. She has constantly been the caretaker of a mother-in-law, aunts and cousins suffering through numerous CHEMO treatments and radiation. Jane is there to provide a ride or comfort. I am so overwhelmed by all the approaching death she witnesses - but SHE never complains. Her eyes are focused on the Lord and HIS plan for each of us. Jane inspires me everyday with her calming nature and has provided me comfort when I question LIFE. She has truly been a blessing to me in the past several years. I am a better person from knowing her.

Would love for my mom to have a new handbag. She is going through chemotherapy right now and actually working between her treatments! Her cancer is very rare, but would love her to keep "living" and celebrating life while still here with us. We live in different states but it would be fun for her get an "out of the blue" type blessing.

Peace & grace to you,

I would give a handbag to Elaine Olson @PeacefortheJourney. As a pastor's wife and dedicated friend, she has carried the burden for so many.

This week she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She's in a new town with a new congregation who, I'm sure, will be a good support to her. But as she travels from appointment to treatment, I'd love her to have a tangible reminder that there are many of us across the world lifting her burden in prayer and that the loving arms of Jesus are holding her. She can carry her every-day needs in it and remember that she doesn't have to carry this burden on her own.

And I'd let Elaine choose who would receive the other bag because it is so much more her nature to give than to receive.

I would love for my dear friend and Mom, Vicki Blevins to win a handbag. I did not appreciate the true value of my mom until I was much older, but now she is not only my mother, she my confidant and friend! She is an amazing woman of the Lord, a shining example of what a wife should be and (as biased as I am) the best mother in the world. If anyone deserves a new handbag, it would be her!

Thank you so much!

My mom is the most loving and caring person I know. She has an unselfish and always giving heart. It amazes me the amount of people she helps. On Sundays, their is always an extra guest. What makes her spectacular is she was a single mother of three and made less than 18,000 yearly to support her family, while still giving a helping hand to all in need.

Gini sings songs in the middle of a game and she gets huffy(in a funny way) if she thinks someone is changing the rules on her. She has raised her son on her own(he's a senior this year), and does so much for so many other kids. Takes them to youth and small group, took a bunch to Puerto Rico on a mission trip, took a group to Ocean City for the day. Gini loves to do things for people and is an encourager for our small group in getting us to help others. She's my "word" partner...we watch and stop each other when it seems we may be saying things we shouldn't be. She makes me laugh and lets me cry. She reaches out when I withdrawal but knows just how far to go and how much space to give me. The best things about her are her fabulous hugs and beautiful smile that lights up her face and lights up your heart when she turns them both on you!

She has a gift for keeping in touch with so many different people and bringing God's light into their lives. I love her to death and can't imagine my life without her friendship!

My best friend Desiree deserves a purse, seriously! She almost never buys anything for herself and does a great job finding clearance and rummage sale finds for her kids and occasionally herself. I don't remember her ever having a brand spankin' new purse. She is also a military wife, with a hubby who has deployed to the Middle East twice in the last eight years. I know it's something that would make her YEAR and would be a great way to spoil her a little. I love her and believe she's totally deserving!

Hey Shari!
Just gonna leave a quick comment because my cds I ordered from She Speaks came in the mail today and I want to watch as many as I can tonite! :)
I want to nominate my bless-ed sister to win a handbag. She is a beautiful woman of God, a mom of 2 boys, a loving wife, and a precious sis! She is EXACTLY like my sweet mother was in that she NEVER buys anything for herself. She sacrifices her own wardrobe and accessories to make sure her family has all they need. I have threatened numerous times to nominate her for the show "What Not To Wear". haha I believe she bought her last handbag at a yard sale. Her response to my plea for her to pamper herself just once is "that's a want not a need, Sis". So, maybe the Lord will show favor and surprise her with a "want".
Hugs =)

PURSE! or i guess handbag is the more mO-dérn fashionista term ;) those of us 40+ers still out in the diaper bag trenches can barely remember what a purse looks like, let alone what the new fangled word is that kids are using nowadays to describe it! :p just think barb... someday soon, i will hopefully join you & graduate from diaper bag duty, too! :)

Wow! What a true inspiration and blessing coming to your blog for the first time! I saw the P31 posting on facebook and decided to check it out! Today, my husband and I celebrate our 9th Wedding Anniversary! However, as we celebrate, my heart pours out and weeps for his Aunt whose marriage is going through tremendous stretching. I would love to nominate her to win a gorgeous handbag! In the 14 years that I have known her, I have NEVER once seen her with a handbag. She works several jobs to make ends meet and pay for ongoing medical bills with her child's life threatening illness. When her world is crashing she keeps this amazing attitude and has the most Beautiful pure smile. It is not that she is "Faking it till you Make it", it is pure in every sense of the word. She is all heart, and full of kindness and generosity. I realize that a handbag isn't going to "cure" the struggles she faces, but who knows how God will use it to speak to her. To whisper to her "I think you are Beautiful and you are Worth It. Here's a little something to showcase on the Outside what I and others all around you see on the Inside!" I pray its a reminder to her to embrace her God-Given Beauty! Thanks so much for this opportunity to nominate her for this handbag. May God Bless You and Continue to use you to bring Fashion Meets Faith to a Whole NEW Level!!!!

Please consider her for a purse from you. What an honor.

Hi! Thanks for a chance at a great giveaway!
There are so many deserving women writing in and written about in these posts! Even if not selected, that's ok, because I still want to give a shout out to my friend Kara, who is so deserving of a little pampering.

Kara is a friend from when I was in the Air Force. Four couples ended up at the same base at the same time and were were neighbors. We had so much fun together for three years, then we all had to move. Kara and I have kept in touch and she has been a steady, but quiet influence on my life as I became a Christian.

Kara is a mom to three kids under 5 years old. She's a devoted Air Force spouse and in the last 4 years since we all left each other, life had dealt her some frustrations. They lost a baby early in pregnancy, her father in law recently passed, she's endured deployments, and now her husband is leaving the military so their future in an shaky economy is uncertain. And life's daily annoyance seem to gravitate toward her, too: finding mice in her car, her kids leaving the deep freeze open and spoiling all their food, driving into town and forgetting the diaper bag, etc. But what made me really think that's she's deserving of a new bag is that last month her purse was stolen from her car in their driveway. Along with the panic that brings, she had major, major obstacles in just trying to get a new drivers license from her home state. Whenever I see her Facebook status updates with these crazy antics, I continually think to myself: "again? how much more can this girl take?"

But Kara just keeps plugging away and maintains a cheerful attitude throughout. She's an inspiration to me and I'm honored to nominate her for a new bag alongside all these other great women.

I would like to win a bag for my best friend, Lisa. She and her husband have become very dear friends of mine and my husband's. There are three reasons Lisa deserves a handbag:
1) My husband and I were set to go to a Christian music festival with Lisa and her husband. Just before the festival, my husband lost his job. To practice financial responsibility, we backed out of going to the festival. They day before they were set to leave, Lisa called to tell me that she had tickets at her house for us, as an early anniversary present. We were overwhelmed by their generosity.
2) Lisa is starting a new business venture, and a new beautiful handbag would provide the extra encouragement she could use right now.
3) She is just an awesome woman!
(Oh, and a little addendum - she always puts others first and never splurges on anything for herself, and she deserves it!)

Hey Shari,
I definitely know my sister, Cheryl deserves a new handbag. She lost her job about 3 1/2 years ago. Received unemployment for 2 years and has worked cleaning houses and dog sitting just to pay her rent and buy food. She has a heart of gold and is just beginning to really seek and trust God. Last year she got a part-time job with the local school district and immediately won the hearts of other teachers and the children so worked with. The principal was even sad that he could not offer her something more permanent last May.
But God had a plan for her. She was just hired last week to work as an aid with a child who has autism. She is so excited and cannot wait to meet him and his mom.
As I mentioned, she is just beginning to trust God through prayer and attending church. I wish I lived closer (we are 90 minutes away) so I could disciple her.
Oh, I forgot to say, she hates shopping and crowds so when she buys a purse it is a quick trip to Target or Kmart.
Thanks,
Karrie

My friend Marsha, and I see so many more women nominated who deserve a new handbag and I know she would agree. Pick one of them. But I will suggest her anyway. She is a behind the scenes kind of girl. She is a new nail tech and she has given away many pedis and manis to women who cannont afford the luxury or to bless someone who does so much for others. I only know this because I have watched her. She would not mention it to anyone. She also is a dedicated sister, daughter, wife and mother to her family. She has been a stronghold and prayer warrior for them in some challenging life changes. A lovely woman of God.

Shari,
Thank you so much for your guidance on make up and t-shirts today.

I have a friend (Tristina) that moved to the Midwest (St. Louis, MO) from NC last October 2009. She is the kindest, more frugile person that I havec EVER met!!! She has moved away from all of her family and friends. I met her the first Sunday that they had moved here and we have been GREAT friends ever since. She is a breast cancer survivor and has 2 beautiful twins that just turned a year old. She has given up everything (her family, friends, and job) to be able to stay at home and raise her 2 beautiful children. Her husband took a different job in the company that he was working in order to be able to be home each night with them (which is what brought them to the plant in St. Louis, MO). I would LOVE for my friend to be a recipient of a handbag because she will not buy anything for herself unless her husband or a friend gives her a gift card to a place that she has to use it at. She is She is the kindest, most frugile person and has said "it is more important to save for her children than spend money on herself for things that she does not necessarily need" (she may want, but she hoenstly puts her wants aside in order to stay at home with her children.)The handbag that she currently carries is several years old and she would be so excited (in her cute southern drawl!) to get a new handbag! She would say "oh girl, you are too sweet!" I know that it would brighten her day and make her feel important because believe me crawling on the floor all day with kiddos is hard work...but so rewarding!
Thank you for considering my friend and believe me...she would be grateful for the smallest gift!

I would love for my friend Dana to win the handbag. She is an amazing best friend, who's always there to help whenever someone needs her. She's been there for me so many times over 20 years. Her husband of ten years, just left her for "other women". She is now caring for her 3 beautiful children, juggling going back to college (she just started classes on Monday, so proud of her!) and trying to keep her children safe, clothed and fed. I know a purse will not solve any of her problems, but it might just be a pick me up that will give her a little boost to win it, that will help her on this hard path. She has such amazing faith, strength and character. After all the pain he is putting her through, she does not wish him ill, just wants to do what's best for her family and move forward. I know God has a plan for her in all of this. She has stayed true to her Lord in all this and it has been so inspiring to me.
I think she deserves a little bright spot in this dark time of her life.
Shari, also, thank you so much for your devotional on Prov.31 today! I am inspired to clean out my "purse" asap!
Sincerely, CakeGirl

My sister-in-law is an amazing women of God who loves her family and lives a life of service. She has a 3 year old little girl and a 1 year old little girl, who she stays at home with. Two days a week she spends the entire day at her parent's house (with her girls) taking care of her mother who is a brain cancer survivor. I can't imagine how hard it is to take care of the physical needs of your quickly fading 57 year old mother, let alone the emotional stress of her rapid mental decline. Yet she does every week which a loving heart. In the midst of all this she still takes time to encourage me. I love her and am honored to have her as a sister and an aunt to my 3 babies!

A good friend of mine has recently separated from her husband and has gone through an amazing amount of difficulty in the past few years. We had lost touch with each other and just recently reconnected- while she professes that she asked Christ into her heart as a young girl, her life doesn't reflect His lordship and she seems so lost right now. She is also undergoing a great deal of back trouble, having just had an epidural in an attempt to avoid back surgery (she is only 30), and I know she feels far less than beautiful. I think something as wonderfully simple as the gift of a handbag would be a lovely encouragement to her. Thank you for your site and for this giveaway!

I would love for my bestest friend and related by marriage to win a bag. She is the only person besides my husband I will share our actual dirty laundry- clothes kind. We live about 6 hours apart, and dont' get to see each other. But thanks to facebook, we can chat a lot. She has been so encouraging and listens to me no matter what. And faithful to pray for me. She has been having problems with her other hip. If God does not heal it, then in a year have to have this surgery that will be about 6 month recovery. She already had the other one done.

She turns 50 this year and she will also celebrate her 30th wedding anniversary. (those 2 things alone are enough to deserve a new purse!!!) But just a year ago she lost her right leg to a car accident. She is a nurse and is no longer able to work. She has a 25-year-old son in a wheelchair she takes care of and also a very demanding husband! I think she deserves a new purse because through all the trials she has been through over the last 20 years she has never once given up on God, she continues to give Him the glory for her life and puts her life in His hands. And by the way, if she does happen to win the free purse give-a-way....I won't be keeping the second purse for myself, I will be giving it to my baby sister, Valerie! How could I get Denise a purse and not Valerie?!?!?!

Hi Shari,

I would like to nominate my mom for a new handbag. She has given so much to her three children over the years and hardly does anything special for herself! Thanks for your timely advice - I really enjoy your posts.

One of my dearest friends "S" has been working for a ministry for over 7 years now. She is the most giving and humble woman I know. I could spend hours telling you all the "things" she is going through personally and all the "things" she has done to help other people.. but one thing about "S" is she like to be the unknown. Thus my "S" when mentioning her. It never matters to her whether anyone knows what she has done as long as God gets the glory.

I have carried bags of clothes from "S"'s home that she took out of her own closet.. not the leftovers, but new things with tags on it, even her favorites, to give to someone who may be in more need than her. I have watched her chose things for her children and pass up things she would like for herself. I have personally been the beneficiary of her generosity as she has handed off her daughters outgrown WARDROBES to my children with no expectancy of anything in return.

"S" has a giving heart. She has carried her same favorite purse for at least 2 years now because she won't spend the money when it could be better spent paying for someone she loves' doctor appointment or wedding supplies for a family member who is struggling. I think this blessing would be just the pick-me-up "S" needs show her a little of the love she so generously shares!

I would like to give my friend Cathy a new purse. Not because she really needs one but because I want to show her some love. You see, we met 10 years ago when her oldest son, Mason was born prematurely at 27 weeks. I was his nurse in the NICU. I took care of him for 6 weeks until he was transferred to a higher level of care because he wasn't doing well. Fast forward two years and I was hired to be his full time home care nurse for a year. You see, Mason was so damaged from being premature that he requires 24 hour supervision and care. He has numerous medical problems and developmental delays. He learned to walk at age 8 and he is still fed through a tube. While I was Mason's home care nurse my friend had a second son. At age three Max was diagnosed with autism. And then she and her husband found out they were expecting again! This time she gave birth to a beautiful little girl named Maggie. Maggie is now a perfectly healthy typical 3 year old who is the little princess of the family. She more than makes up for the fact that neither of her older brothers can speak!
For the past 10 years my friend Cathy has not had a month's worth of full nights of sleep because she must watch Mason's monitors. He's on a trach and sometimes still uses oxygen. But even with all of the challenges she faces daily with her children, Cathy has managed to start a non-profit organization that provides scholarships for disabled children to attend hippotherapy (therapy with horses) because this is what finally allowed Mason to learn to walk and she wanted other kids to have the same benefit. Because she is on the board, her own children cannot benefit from this charity although their finances are not great either. She has spent the past 3 years getting this non-profit off the ground for the benefit of other kids without even thinking about all of the non-compensated time. Cathy amazes me with her energy and drive. I am not exaggerating when I say that her son Mason would not be alive today if it was not for her diligence in caring for him.
Having given birth to a set of beautiful twin girls almost a year ago, I am back to being Mason's nurse twice a week so I can stay home the rest of the time with my own children. Cathy deserves to be shown some TLC for all of the exhausting work she has done to keep her family going as well as working so hard to help provide over 650 scholarships so other children can have the benefit of hippotherapy which would otherwise be unavailable to them. She is an amazing woman, generous to a fault and full of life and love. I would love to give this gift to her. Thank you.

I would like to win a handbag for my friend Karen Binney!
A little longer than 2 years ago, I received a call from Karen's husband that Karen had a stroke and they didn't know if she was to live or die. We are christians so I knew she would be with the Lord, but I did not know how I was going to react when I stepped into that hospital room to see her. Her head part shaven, because they had to do brain surgery, tubes and all that goes with it, I walked out of the room and broke down. The nurse came over to me and asked what Karen was like as a person before she had the stroke. I shared with the nurse that Karen was a woman that had me and my children over every Tuesday nite for supper because I was a single mom and my husband had abandoned me. For 2 1/2 years, every Tuesday (if Tuesday was cancelled, most of the time it would be another night) for supper. She had christian love for me and my children. Her Tuesday nights were the only normalcy for the kids and myself. I looked forward going over there where she, her husband (her nephew that she took custody of) would have supper, read the word together. Her husband would bring out the hymnal and we would sing and then she brought out the home-made desert. Church of course can not be compared but her house was my refuge until I met and married again.
Karen lived after 3 brain surgeries and she is still partly paralyzed. I see her every couple of months. I would love to lay a pocketbook in her lap and tell her how much the Lord loves her and how much He wants her alive.

Hi Everybody,

I would like to win a handbag for my twin sister. This year has been so tough for us. We lost our mom suddenly and unexpectedly and are both going through such a hard time. She has been there for me and although this has been the hardest time for both of us God is drawing us closer to Him and eachother and making her and I a strong family.

Together we stayed in a hotel room for 3 months and visited my mom in ICU 3 times a day. We cried, and prayed together...

My reason for wanting to win the handbag is because I cannot afford to give her a special gift and I would love something to give her that she would love that is special (she loves handbags!)It would be a great gift so she knows how grateful I am for her.

I was just thinking about buying her something special and then stumbled onto this blog from Proverbs 31 Ministries website.

It would mean so much to me if you picked her to win.

Thank You & God Bless You!

June

Hi Shari,
I wanted to suggest my BFF, Alicia, for your handbag giveaway. Alicia is in her mid-30's and is the BUSY mother of 4 girls, all ages 8 and under. Needless to say, she rarely takes the time or money to do things for herself! Sometimes we go shopping together, and I usually am the one to encourage her in her fashion choices. We have a great time when we can steal away and shop!
She is very concerned about modesty for herself and her girls, and is also very frugal, so a new handbag is almost last on her list of what to buy for herself.
I read your P31 blog today comparing our Christian lives to a purse - wow, what a great analogy! So, in order to calm down the business, Alicia needs a purse that's "just right" - not too big to stuff with too many things and not too small that she can't fit in all her necessary "activities".
Thank you for taking the time to read this!

I would love to win a handbag for my friend Rhonda who is one of my best friends and such a servant of the Lord. She has been such a great friend in encouraging me through anything and everything. She's a great mentor to me in guiding me through the ministry I'm involved in as well as guiding me through personal situations. She also is like a grandmother to my children...loving them and giving them little gifts here and there. She works full time plus works with people in hospice, is part of our church's nursing home ministry, sings beautifully in our choir and does special music, she leads a ladies breakfast 4-5 times a year, she sometimes teaches a ladies Sunday school class and is an encouragement to many women in our church. I'm truly blessed to have her in my life.

Shari,
I've never used Mary Kay's eye makeup remover but I've always used baby oil. It works awesome in getting your eye makeup to come off, baby oil doesn't sting your eyes and baby oil lasts for a very long time. Just wanted to give you that tip if you wanted something that works well and is inexpensive. :)

Hi Shari, Just found your website and have truely been encourged by your words. The person I choose to win the handbag is my wonderful daughter, Alexa. She is a 13 year old that is a beautiful daughter of the King. She would love being a winner with a new handbag. Thanks so much.

Hi Shari, I got your book and attended your seminar at She Speaks and loved both! (I'm already counting my points everyday. Ha!) I'd choose my son's girlfriend, Anna, to win a new handbag. She's the most giving 18 year old I've ever known. She is preparing to leave next month on a 3 month mission trip to a Nicaraguan orphanage, then returning to begin a special education degree. And she loves purses almost as much as I do!

My friend Beth deserves to win a handbag because she is the best encourager a friend could ever ask for! She constantly encourages me to seek God's will for my life AND she prays for me all the time. I can always count on her - kind of like how I can always count on my favorite, brown, Roxy handbag that is worn out and in need of replacement (plus, it's so screams "I am 16" when in reality I am 33 - okay . . . 34 . . .my bday is today)!

Shari, thanks for all you do . . . for being you!

I definitely agree about the MK eye make-up remover. I have very sensative skin / eyes / EVERYTHING and it's THE BEST!!

My girlfriend Corie deserves a gift and this hand bag would be perfect! She's a hardworking mommy of one and an excellent wife. I've talked her, and a few other girlfriends, to go to the eWomen's conference with my in Ft Wayne in October... we can't wait! Well, ever since she's said yes, Satan has been attacking her. Like me, she deals with depression and oh boy does Satan know it. Thankfully God has come through, like only He can, and she's been turning to Him more and more.

In my book... she's deserving of a little gift for her step in faith and recommitment to her relationship with Christ!

Hi, I believe my friend Sherry would greatly appreciate a new purse. She is a relatively new believer who is being obedient in a very troubling marriage. She is told by the world that her faith is a crutch. She quietly shows Jesus to her unbelieving husband and mother-in-law. She is a women who is used to hand-me-downs. A new purse would be a very special gift that would lift her tender heart.

She is also a great mom to her children!

God bless you and your ministry.

I would love to win a handbag for my cousin's wife, Anne. Anne just turned 30 a few weeks ago... 2 weeks before that Dr's found a massive brain tumor. They have since operated on the tumor, and while they don't have a complete diagnosis the Dr's do know it is cancer. Anne has gone back to work as a teacher and is impacting others. She is beautiful inside and out and her confidence has inspired me though she probably doesn't know it. I know that a new handbag would remind her that even through all of what she is about to go through that God will use it to ensure her insides and outsides match and are beautiful.

Hey Shari! I know my friend Heide Hakes deserves to win the new purse. She is one of those ladies you know God has put into your life the second you meet her. She has encouraged me numerous times over the years during trials in my life. Although she is younger than me, she has been my Titus 2 mentor. Her insight on raising children, jobs, friends and life has inspired me to grow my relationship closer to God. She has recently moved (a normal in the life of a military wife) and has seemed to need a little uplifting of her own these days. I am many states away and can only offer phone calls, emails and prayers. I think a new bag would be perfect for her.

PS You would have to pick another reciepent for the other bag...I am a "recovering bag lady" and cannot bring a new one into my house!

Oh my word.....I'm so glad you put it down in words about TEE-SHIRTS!!
Ewww! They are strictly used for only certain things at my house (I have 2 teen daughters).
We use them to sleep in or lounge around the house in and to do work in. Like clean out the garage!
No way would you catch one of my girls wearing a plain boxy tshirt to school. It's way too easy to look spiffy in items such as you posted!

Thanks.

Ok, handbag? My mother-in-law is awesome! She loves pretty things but will not get special stuff for herself like a nice handbag.
This would make her feel like a queen! She deserves it too! Afterall, she gave me a great husband!

I nominate my friend Julie Young. She is a sweet lady whose always looking for ways to help others. Spending money on herself is not a priority for her. She's very giving to missions and needs of her church. I work with her and see the giving side of her often. Thank you

My Mom deserves to win a handbag because she recommended this blog to my sister and I. I enjoyed looking over the blog and I will be a regular reader now because of Shari's stance on T-Shirts! I can't stand regular T-shirts and only wear them around the house or to support a cause (relay for life).

I think my mom deserves a new handbag. She's always thinking of us first, and besides, don't you think that the world's greatest mom should have something besides a card? :) The handbag she carries now is from the '80's or something (it is rather old). She hasn't had a new one for a while

Thank you for your devotional at Proverbs 31! I'm trying so hard to keep myself from getting too busy and re-organizing so I can get what needs to be done, done.
I would love to win a handbag for my mom. My mom is an amazing woman, who never, and I mean NEVER, buys anything new for herself. She gets hand-me-downs from people and proudly wears them ad purchases anything else at goodwill Value Village. I have never seen her purchase a handbag or purse, in my entire life. Why does she deserve a treat like this, though? She has a heart of gold for anyone who is hurting. She goes out of her way to reach out to newcomers at her church. She's a prayer warrior. She always puts everyone else's needs before her own. Life has not been easy for her. My dad has struggled with manic depression their entire married life, 36 years. My sister, who still lives at home at 27, is floundering. It's my mom who holds them together. I love her to bits and would love to surprise her with something like this.
Thanks so much for the chance.

If I win a handbag, I will share with my friend Melanie. She is a going through some tough family times right now and would never buy herself a new bag- at least-not right now. She puts fashion on the back burner to all her family obligations. I want her to see how doing things like getting a new purse-can really 'snap' outfits to a new level.

Hi, I really enjoyed your devotional. I would choose my friend Rachel to receive a new handbag. She is getting ready to move far away, from SC to NY. She has three children which she will be homeschooling and I know that this move is going to be a big adjustment for her. She is really good at caring for people in the church who are hurting or going through struggles and she will be missed here.

what a great analogy on purses today Shari! I think if I was to choose someone to win a handbag I would choose my oldest daughter instead of a friend and share this devotional with her as she receives the bag...you should see inside her most used handbag...its a mess and her life is heading that way. I am trying to encourage her to bring God back into her life.

Too fun!!

I would choose my mom to win the new handbag. She tends to find a handbag she likes, and then uses it until it is practically dead haha The stitching is all frayed and the "handles" are falling off :)

Please consider choosing a hangbag for my bestie, Cynthia. We have been best friends for 10 years, after meeting at a family camp in Northern Minnesota. We currently live 7 hours apart because we both made sacrifices so that we could put our families first. Both of our husbands got new jobs...better hours to equal more family time, but considerably less pay. As Moms, Cynthia and I have both worked hard to cut back on any extra expense possible in order to support our families' decisions to live on less. Of course, you know that we fill the needs of our kids and husbands first. So, no more new handbags for us! Cynthia is my rock when I'm tempted to splurge on a new book or get a venti Starbucks instead of a tall. She has been such an encouragement to me through this transition for our family. I would love to be able to bless her with a new handbag for herself as she never, ever, ever buys things for herself. I love my bestie!!

I enjoyed your purse devotional. It made me think of my mom. She carries a small purse with multi-slots for everything she needs. I have never heard her say, "Have you seen my keys?" Her spiritual life is much the same. She is my mentor, accountability partner and prayer warrior. I love my mommy and I would love to see her win a new purse.

That is an awesome devotional. I plan on sharing it with some friends from chruch--they will love it. Shari, I would love to win a handbag for my friend Karen. A week ago she asked me if she could call me on a certain day each week--to keep her accountable to some goals she is working toward. She also just had to send off her oldest son who is deployed with the war. She could really use a lift!! (and I would love a new bag too). Oh and one more thing--loved the CAbi outfits!

When I sat down and read the devotion from proverbs 31, I said to myself "She is talking about me" I am the women who has a large bag, that crams it full of "stuff" and then find that I am completely overwhelmed. I have the same handbag from when my daughter was born five years ago, next week. A handbag is the last thing on my list to buy for "Me". I loose all my things in the lining, because of the holes in it. I would love to have a chance at winning a new handbag as I change my style to a few things in my handbag and not craming God. Thank you for all your incouragement.

I would love to win a handbag for my bestie, Tara. She was reaching in her handbag the otherday and the zipper was broken and she commented that it just wasn't in their budget. Tara and her husband just started Dave Ramsey and are doing great! She has been very dedicated to it and is watching every penny. I know how hard it is to stick with the program and am very proud of her.

My niece is a Special Ed teacher for kindergarten. She has helped a young, troubled girl become sweeter and more calm, something the school psychologist couldn't do. Then, one day a little "spider man" jumped the playground fence and my niece followed suit after him. She sprained her ankle and grass-stained her white pants in the process but the rescue was successful! She's dedicated and good at what she does because she cares.

My favorite eye make-up remover is Suave Replenishing Moisture Lotion for Sensitive Skin facial moisturizer. It is about $3. I have never tried Mary Kay eye make-up remover so I am not sure if it works better, but it definitely works better than any of the other remover products at Walmart or Target. It does not sting and leaves no oily residue like so many do. Make sure you get the "Sensitive Skin" type though as fragrance and other irritants will irritate your eyes.
