What to Wear: Answers to Makeup Questions and New Post News!

Have I told you recently how much I just love you girls? Seriously, I am so grateful for each of you and privileged to call you my friends....because you really are.

Thank you so much for all the nice feedback last week regarding posting on an additional day of the week. I've decided to pick
MONDAY!
Because everyone agreed that's the day it should be. Smile.

So here's what we're gonna do.
I'd like to offer Monday's to YOU to be a guest blogger and post on what you have gleaned and learned from my book Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad.

Mariah had this to say:
Awesome idea about the additional post. I think is would be GREAT to feature us women of all different shapes and sizes and what we learned for our own body types or even for our heart(spiritually).

So that's what we're going to do! The only requirement is that you send me a PICTURE of you so I can post it with your story! (Another smile.) I KNOW your story will be  encouragement and inspiration to other women. Tell us in your story how you felt about yourself before you read the book, and how you feel now. What did you learn? Do you see yourself differntly? Do you have a heart change? What did it do for you physically? Spiritually? Do you have a before and after picture to send? Will you share your size (you don't have to, but I do think it would encourage others if you will..but this is not a requirement.) Whatever it is you think will encourage another, please include it. Will you also tell what your favorite chapter was?

I want to feature as many of you as possible. I will also link to your blog on that day so each of you can get to know each other better and visit each other's sites!
Let's be FRIENDS and ENCOURAGERS to one another.

So who wants to go first?
Please send me a story of at least 300 words...more is fine too! I hope this will be a post where we can learn to celebrate our physical appearance and lead others to feel great about who they are whether they are a size 2, 12, 22, or 42. Let's shout it out that we are happy to be who God made us to be and we're proud to be fashionable Christian women!

If any of you think you can have your story, pics and link(if applicable) sent to me by this Saturday afternoon, we'll start it off this Monday! If no one thinks they can do it that fast, then just go ahead and comment below that you'd like to share your story and I'll get you in a line-up and we'll start the following week.
 I'm so excited about this!!!!!

Now for this week's answers to your makeup questions from last week!

Michelle Angelique wanted to know what eye makeup colors she should wear for her SOFT coloring. She also wanted to know if there is a certain age you should stop wearing shiny or metallic eyeshadow.

ANSWER: For blue eyes, try shades of brown, peach and taupe; for green or hazel eyes, try browns, beiges and medium shades of plum or violet, for brown eyes try rose tones, peaches, gray, or golden colors. As for shiny or metallic eyeshadow, as long as it's good quality and in powder form (not creamy) it will go on just fine and won't make you look older. Just don't wear a shiny white color all over your lid...this is aging.

ANOTHER READER FRIEND ASKED:
I am dark skinned, more like probably olive, hard to describe with sheen on my face; what kind of powder do you think I should use? Whenever I put on anything on my face, it tends to just glisten despite I try to use items without oil.

ANSWER: Mineral powder is the solution. It will go on with the most natural finish and will not glisten on your face. Apply it with a brush (not the pad that comes with it). The powder pads that come with the product tend to soak up the oil on your face so you'll keep reapplying oil to your face that's stuck to the pad. Using a powder brush or cotton ball will eliminate this problem.

ALEX ASKED: My makeup question: Which stays on better under high temperatures and some sweat: Liquid foundation/concealer, or powder foundation/concealer? Or would tinted moisturizer work better than either of these?

ANSWER: Alex, if you really want your makeup to last, use a primer first. Then use concealer and liquid foundation. Finish will loose powder.
If you are exercising, just go with a tinted moisturizer. This way, when you glisten (smile) the only thing that will come off is a little tint!  Also, you asked me a week or so ago about washing your blue jeans in the salt rinse I talked about in my book...you only should have to do this the first time and then do regular washing after that!

MELINDA ASKED:  My make-up question is about the lips. My lipstick has a tendency to bleed into the wrinkles arund my lips, especially when I use a gloss. I have been told to use lip liner but the liners I have used tend to run also. Any suggestions???

ANSWER: YES! Mary Kay has an amazing lip primer you use before you put your lipstick on. It is a clear product that will "block" the color from bleeding into your lips. Apply it on the edge of your lips all the way around your mouth and then apply your lip color!

Sue asked: Is it OK to use a lip liner just outside my lip line to make my upper lip look a little bigger? I don't have much of a cupid's bow and it's kinda little. Gloss alone looks funny to me, even though I'd like to do only that sometimes.

ANSWER: Well, you can, just be careful that it doesn't look fake. It's okay to have a small upper lip! But if you do it, make sure you fill it in all the way to your lips and fill in your entire lip with the same lip pencil before you apply some color or gloss. This will be the most natural application method.

Okay girls, that's it for this week! So who wants to go first to post this Monday? Do any of you think you can get it together by then? If so, let me know! I'd also love to start planning out a schedule for the month...so comment away and let me know. You all make me so happy!
(Hey, by the way, I have a radio interview with Crown Financial on Monday, October 4th that will be playing on their over 800+ radio stations nationwide...listen for me on your Christian station on Monday! It was a fun interview with men who were blushing over the fashion questions...it was cute!

Love you all!
Shari

Can't believe how quick the time flies between Wednesdays! Is it too late to post a makeup question???
My question is this: how do I apply eyeliner so it looks natural? I tend to end up with two black beetles walking across my face so I've basically given up! Someone did say that it would be better to try brown but I'm hesitant to spend MORE money on eyeliners! I've tried liquid and pencil but just can't seem to get it!
Thanks
Becky

Hi Becky, for some reason your comment posted about 5 or 6 times so I deleted the duplicates! There's always time for questions! Try applying your eyeliner in your fave color like black, dark brown or charcoal and THEN take a Q tip and dip in the same color eyeshadow and go over the liner. It will 'seal' in the liner and keep it from smudging...hope you don't look like a beetle anymore! LOL!

Hi Shari! I am so excited about the extra day of posting! I look so forward to Wednesday to read your blog but now I can look forward to Monday too!! What a way to help fight the Monday morning blues. I'm excited to hear the stories of the women that have read your book. I know they are going to be a huge blessing to others.

I won your book from commenting on your blog a couple weeks ago and would love to participate, but I need a little more time to finish reading it and then to get my act together to write something. Maybe toward the end of October? Loving the book and suggestions, by the way.

Shari, I love the idea of the Monday post and look forward to hearing others testimonies. One thing I would love to see is if you would occasionally do a Monday makeover post/tips with those of us who might have trouble areas or questions.

As in I am 5ft so petite/short, 125lbs, but I have a mini muffin belly (4 babies) and wider thighs. I can't figure out if I am a b or a d (leaning towards a d). And then being short isn't helping me either to find the right fit pants or shirts the right length. And b's and d's seem to be opposite on body style and what to do buy (low rise jeans vs. midrise jeans, etc) This is just my example. I am sure there are many others who have various struggles and can't quite figure out what to do.

Maybe you could do a mini-makover Monday every 6 weeks or so and pick a reader or someone who has attended your Beauty Bootcamp and show solutions to their troubled area wheter it is a "hybrid" body type, style question or make up issues. Just a thought. I am looking forward to the Monday posts!

BTW, I received my swatches this week. Thanks so much! I look forward to sorting the closet soon and start shopping on purpose. Thanks for this great blog and your book! Blessings, Darcy

Hi Shari, thanks for your answer to my make up question. You said I should use mineral powder. What brands do you recommend? Also, for your Monday blog, are you just posting from people who have read your book? will there be other areas that you will blog about? I live in Jamaica and I have not seen your book here. I would love to read it but it's not available. I would love if I could get a copy. Love your blog look forward to it every week. Thank you for encouraging us that we are beautiful people whose Maker loves us just the way we are size 2 to whatever. God bless you.

Hey Shari! Count me in. The book is still coming in the mail, but should arrive here today! Yipee! So, I need some time to read it before I write something. Maybe November? :) Just remember me and put me in whenever. Thanks! Mariah (btw, we love you too!!!)

Hey Shari,
Two questions.
(btw, loved watching you yesterday!
Learned alot! Went to my mother afterwards and told her all kinds of fashion advice! I think she finally gave up on listening and just nodded, her head I told her so much. LOL.

1. When doing the 16 point rule, do braces count?

2. I don't use mascara or eyeliner. How do I bring out my eyes more?

Thanks!

Shari, count me in too! I would enjoy writing a post about what I have learned from your book, perhaps sometime near the end of October. I like the idea of being friends and encouragers to one another; this will help us realize that we all have issues no matter what size we are. I’m looking forward to listening to Crown Financial on Monday.

I've been looking around on the internet and have found the discussion of wearing turtlenecks very interesting. Some people just simply get to hot in them, aside from that, there seems to be very differing opionions of whether they are fashionable or not. So, Shari, what do you think? Turtlenecks, to wear or not :) Personally, I like the look of a nice fitting turtleneck, jeans, jacket (leather would be my choice) and boots.

Thanks, Shari! I've tried it and actually LIKED the effect! I do find brown gives a more natural effect. So, hopefully, my beetles have died an early death!!
