MONDAY MAKEOVER: Brenda Hill!

I just LOVE Mondays now that we get to hear from YOU, the reader of Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad!

I appreciate sooooo much your honesty, your realness and your beauty.
May God bless each of you today and remind you that YOU are beautiful, exactly as you are.

This week we get to hear from Brenda Hill! I know you're going to love her and resonate with what she has to say. I love that we get to hear from all age groups....so here's BRENDA!!!!

This is Brenda when she used to wear PINK! So it's her BEFORE picture!

And this is her AFTER picture! Doesn't she look amazing???????

Describe the woman you saw in the mirror before you read this book:

I saw myself as a Christian woman who dresses conservatively however; I wanted to add a little enhancement so I could be fabulous in my 50’s! On the Christian radio station I listen to; they air a one minute Proverbs 31 Encouragement, I decided to check out their website. I came across Faith meets Fashion. The book Good Girls don’t have to Dress Bad seemed to be what I was looking for. The next shopping trip took me to Border’s Book Store. As I began reading Shari’s book, I realized she told us how to dress and did it from a Christian perspective with a great sense of humor; I was impressed.

Inquiring minds want to know all about you! Give details!

I live in rural Fulton County, PA with my wonderful husband of 16 years; he truly is a gift from God! I have a son from my first marriage; he’s 31 with a lovely wife. I’m 52 years old, a brunette with God given red highlights. I have brown eyes and a fair complexion; I’m a ‘warm’. I stand 5’5’’ and my body type is an ‘X’. My career was in retail and office work; I now enjoy being a stay at home wife. I like to prepare healthy meals, decorate our home and create greeting cards. My passion is scrapbooking; I scrapbook not only the major events in our life but, the everyday ones as well, for this is where we really live.

What was your favorite chapter and why?

I benefited from the entire book!

What practical steps did you take to give yourself this makeover?

When I began looking at Shari’s website, I decided to use the Color E-nalysis. Afterwards I sent her an e-mail along with my picture; Shari impressed me further by personally corresponding, giving encouraging words and helping me to determine that I’m a ‘warm’. I ordered the swatches; when they arrived I took the clothes out of my closet and laid them on the bed, to see what I could and couldn’t wear, that was an enjoyable task!

What was the biggest challenge for you during this process?

At first I wasn’t sure about donating my clothes; what if I needed these particular items? But then, I realized if I only want to wear what looks good, I won’t be wearing these clothes anyway.

I have quite a bit of pink; that is the worse color for me. After looking at my before and after picture’s I can see why it is a bad choice; so pink and I have parted company!

What did you determine your clothing style is and do you like knowing this?

As soon as I read Who’s Got Style? You Do! I knew I would be a classic modern, as a girl I enjoyed watching movies where actresses Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor looked so polished. I believe the reason I worked in retail was to be around fashion.

What was the most memorable or transforming part of all of this?

One evening we went out to dinner, I was wearing warm colors and my husband said, “You do know you’re attractive”. I said, “Sometimes’. He said, “You are”! That put a smile on my face for the rest of the evening!

Who do you see in the mirror now?

I’m a woman who hasn’t felt this good about what I am wearing in a long time and I’m enjoying the process!

 Any final words for us?

God created you to be YOU.
Be yourself, no one can do it better!

Why do you recommend this book to others and what benefit does it have for someone who reads it?

I have taken Shari’s book and my swatches along to the mall; it’s great to have the info
in my purse and I figure buying a new piece of clothing in the correct colors pays for the book.
I have a new way of looking at myself when I get dress in the mornings, I love that!
In Shari’s book one of the many things I learned was I have ‘girls’. I loved reading chapter 4; finding the proper fitting bra and where my ‘girls’ should sit!

In addition to learning I was wearing the wrong colored clothing, I also wore the wrong colors in make-up; this was a real eye-opener! On pages 167-169 I’ve highlighted the clothing items that
I need to purchase. This will make shopping and coordinating my clothes much easier and is a fun way to update my wardrobe.
If you or someone you love wants fashion encouragement
is the perfect book.
Shari, I appreciate you!

Oh! My! Word! Brenda, you look AMAZING! This is an amazing real life example of what a difference colors make! After reading the book, I discovered I have pretty much never done anything right...as I have the budget, I will make changes in my colors, styles, etc. but for now I am just doing the best with what I have...the other day I was wavering in my willingness to give up black, after seeing the difference the right colors make my resolve is back!

You could be Shari's spokesmodel! :) Thanks for sharing!

I echo the previous comments in saying you look amazing! I am in my 50's also (just a few more years than you, though) and love that Shari's book speaks to women of all ages. Thank you especially for sharing about donating clothes that aren't right for you. I have been putting that task off but with your story, I am energized to clean out my closet and make room for the right colors.

Brenda,

You look fantastic! It really is amazing what the right colors will do for you. You have also given me encouragement to donate the clothes that don't work for me. I know if they stay in my closet I will wear them. Thank you for sharing your story.

Brenda, you look amazing! I loved how you went through everything in your closet with your swatches and once my swatches get here, that's what I'm going to do! Even if I only have a few things left at least I know I'll look good wearing them over and over!!
