Are Capris Frumpy?

Have you ever looked at someone wearing a pair of capris and thought
frumpy or dowdy?

So I beg to ask the question, "Are Capris Frumpy?"

Well, no...and yes, sometimes. But I'm here to save you from dowdy-ness when it comes to wearing your capris.

Follow this same guideline when it comes to skirts and dresses, too.

Depending upon where your legs touch and where they don't touch is the key. Take a look at this photo.

Do you see that she has "spaces" in her legs? These are what I call the DIAMONDS in your legs.

To find out where YOUR diamonds are, stand with your feet like this:

While looking in a full length mirror, you will see that you have places in your legs, beginning at or just above your ankles where you have spaces, openings, or diamonds. Then your legs will touch. Then you may have an opening. Then your legs will touch. Kind of like the first photo of the girl in undies and high heels above (off subject, but who walks around their house like that?!)

Anyway, the bottom of your capris, skirts or dresses should always hit somewhere in the middle of a diamond, they should NEVER hit where your legs touch. When this happens, FRUMPY MAMA occurs!

So you don't have any diamonds in your legs? Well then, leave the capris to someone who has a diamond at or near the calf area and opt for a walk short instead. Ones that hit right at or above the knee area. Like this.

Or this pair:

If you're wearing a skirt, then go for a length like this.

Even if you want a flirty, flowy skirt, right at the knee, or just slightly above it, is the most flattering length if you don't have any diamonds in your legs or if the only diamond you have is at or near your ankles.

So there you have it! The perfect places on your legs to wear your capris, skirts, dresses and shorts.

Happy Springtime Shopping!

Special Note: When determining your diamonds, do it in bare feet. Any heel will change the location of your diamonds. If you know for a fact that you'll be wearing a certain shoe with the particular clothing item, then you can wear the shoes to determine your diamonds. BUT, if you will be wearing different heel heights with your clothing pieces, then it's best to check your diamonds in flat feet.

Awesome post. I know I've had capris that I've given away because they just didn't look right. Now I know- I was missing the diamond trick. Haha Love it. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I just finished reading your book and I'm rebuilding my wardrobe after losing 30+ lbs. I always "knew" that certain lengths looked better on me than others but I couldn't have identified WHY! Thanks for giving the why...walking shorts for this girl!
