Day 14 Challenge: Frumpy to Fabulous!

Day 14 Challenge

Part A: MAKEUP! Go thru all of your makeup drawers, makeup bags, makeup shelves, wherever you keep makeup and clean it up. Throw away all makeup you haven’t used in the last 9 months. Seriously, throw it away. (Mascara should be thrown away every 3 months.) Now take a look at what you have. Do you have what you need? Make the following checklist and see what you have or what needs to go on your S.H.O.P. list.

  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Powder
  • Blush
  • Eye Color (at least one neutral shade)
  • Eye Liner
  • Mascara
  • Lip Liner
  • Lip Color (Lipstick or Gloss, or both)

Your foundation and concealer should be as close to your skintone as possible and your lip and eye products should coordinate with your DCC. For a listing of what these colors are, refer to my book in Chapter 6 beginning on Page 132. You will get  a complete listing there. (Please, if you don’t have the book yet (Good Girls Don’t Have to Dress Bad), get a copy or ask your librarian to get one. It is invaluable information for now and the future when we’re not doing this Challenge.)

Part B: Add to your S.H.O.P. list: Get a new cosmetic bag to carry in your purse…they are not that expensive and it’s nice to pull out a clean makeup bag when touching up your lipstick during the day! (Oh wait, you don’t do that? Come on!!!!)

Love you gals….Happy Day!

I am doing the challenge but started late due to vacations, however, just finished day 4, hooray! Being a D shape I shouldl shop for strappy sandals w/a heel, shorter jackets nipped in at the waist and fun, flared skirts that hit at the knee. I hope I will be able to access all the posts(don't do facebook so thanks for blogging) even after y'all finish the 30 days due to my late start, yes? My conundrum is that 4 yrs ago I developed post shingles neuralgia pain and can no longer wear pants, shorts, etc. I only wear skirts and dresses now to limit pain. This challenge is helping me to see how frumpy I have become and I am trying to address it with developing an attractive look that fits my new lifestyle. The other glitch is that I don't sit, like ever, so shoes have become a major player and most days I am in sneakers. Not so cute with skirts. Since I'm almost 60 and somewhat limited do you have any suggestions for me?Suzi pblapere@att.net I will try to send a photo, where should I send it?

I have checked my make-up; looks like I need new lipstick, eyeshadow and eyeliner. This is a good reminder, something I don't always think about replacing until its empty.

Great tips. Old makeup can cause breakouts and eye infections. Any good discount brands?

I completed this challenge even before it became a challenge! {insert smile here} The other day I was going through my makeup and accessories drawers. I got rid of a lot of stuff! So, now all I need to do is add to my shop list. I really just need a new foundation & concealer. These have been on my "to do" list for some time but I just haven't gone out to purchase them yet. Also, it is that time for a new make-up bag. I threw mine away already because it was truly icky (I know...that's sad.)

I am in real trouble I have and no how to use eye shadow and mascara some times I Evey mess that up. I need not only to SHOP it to learn how to use properly. So I understand why concealer and foundation but why in the blush, powder, and lip liner are they really that necessary to haveto and use?

This is FUN!!! I got rid of so many foundations that I had and never used (buy wrong color, etc.) - I think so far the most fun I'm having is with purging! It's nice to look at my make up and see just what I need and just what I'll use, not so many hits and misses! Thanks for all this information Shari! It feels like being on the road to being more organized and pulled together! THANK YOU!! Karen

Marissa, why don't you schedule an appt with a makeup artist...either at a dept. store (just call the store, ask for cosmetics dept and then ask who does makeovers....it's a free service but they do like you to buy something.) OR you can look online at MaryKay.com and put your zip code in to find a consultant near you. They will come to your home and do makovers too...for free too, but would want you to buy something. They will show you how to put everything on...tell them you want a lesson...not to just put it on you and not show you. And yes, I do believe that powder, blush and lipliner is necessary. love ya girl!

Suzi, as for shoes with your skirts...go for something stylish yet comfy...try dept. store brands like Born,Clarks, and Dansco...they all are very comfy, have great support and have some nice styles. Not all the styles are wonderful but they each have a very good selection of stylish ones....I especially liked the Dansco ones when I did research for you this morning...I found them online at Dillards.com But you could just google the brands and you'll find them. love ya!

Shari, I'm concerned about some of the colors listed for me. I am an "African American" so some of the colors listed in your book don't seem as though they would go well with me. Gray & Silver, I could do. I'm not really sure about the rose tones or peaches. And I have no idea what crystalline colors are. Can you give me a little bit more direction? Thanks

Oh, by the way, I like Bare Minerals & Bobbi Brown. Can you recommend anything from either of those two lines? Thanks

Daisha, same colors, but deeper intensity for women of color...you need shades that have lots of pigment...not familiar with names of colors but if you go to either of the counters you mentioned, they will point you in the right direction. Mary Kay has great pigment and colors for African American beauties like you. love ya!
