Treats from CFW

Dear beautiful readers,

Shari, here. I pray you are enjoying God's beauty wherever you are. Laura has interviewed several women from Christian Fashion Week and is bringing their stories to you over the next several weeks...but before we get into her post today will you join me in saying:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LAURA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's been such an important asset to my blog and I know you love her too...so join me in wishing her a BIG Happy DAY!

So now....here's Laura.......

For me, the best part of CFW was meeting women from around the country who were down to earth, "normal", Christian women who happened to enjoy...love... fashion.

I wanted you to meet these amazing women personally so last week I asked them a few questions.  You will be able to see their responses, my experiences and several little challenges along the way.  If you don't have time to meet each woman, each day, I would recommend that you jump to the last two questions for the advice and challenge from each one.

Meet Typhanie  (like Tiffany).  She was snapping pictures and looking beautiful all weekend with her husband, Dwayne, who was also very fashionably dressed as he accompanied her.

I hope you enjoy meeting Typhanie!

Love, Laura

* How did you hear about Christian Fashion Week?
I heard about Christian Fashion Week from one of my blog readers. I blog at www.mygarmentsofpraise.com.

* Where do you live and why did you decide to travel to Tampa?
I live in just outside of Miami, FL. When I was invited to cover CFW as a blogger, I just felt that I couldn’t miss it. The concept was amazing, and I knew that if I went I would be a part of something that will only get bigger and better.

* What did you think about the experience of Christian Fashion Week?  Be honest, funny, poetic or all of the above.  Fashions, people you met, faith you shared, etc!
Overall, the experience was a great one! I was SO impressed by the diversity represented by the designers, models, and attendees. The fashion show itself was nothing short of entertaining! Find out all about my experience here.

* What did you wear?
To the VIP Reception on the Friday night, I wore the black ensemble with hints of red and white.

(Blazer & Puplum Top: Marshalls, Skirt: Banana Republic, Shoes: Sole Society, Clutch: Forever 21)

To the Fashion show on Saturday evening, I wore the white and green ensemble with zebra print accessories.

(Peplum Top: Thrifted, Skirt: Marshalls, Shoes & Clutch: Guess)

* How did you pick your outfit?  Where did you get the outfit...Closet, borrowed from a friend, shopping?  Stories Please!
I knew I wanted to look fashion forward and a bit edgy for the VIP Reception, and for Saturday I wanted to look fun and vibrant. So I did a little shopping. The night before packing for the event, I headed over to Marshalls and Goodwill for a few pieces that would help me to accomplish both of the looks I was going for.

* Do you have advice for the FashionMeetsFaith readers who need to be fashionably dressed this season, whether it is for a wedding, a party, or a ladies event at church?
Don’t be afraid to thrift shop! To me, thrift shopping doesn’t only include thrift stores (although I can find a lot of great things at Goodwill, Salvation Army, vintage and consignment shops). Thrifting for me also includes finding great deals anywhere! I can usually make quick fashion steals for any occasion at Marshalls or Ross without spending a lot of money. And on the rare occasion that I head to the mall, I make sure I take my gift cards and coupons and browse through Forever 21 and The Limited. The Limited can be a bit pricey, but when they have sales, THEY HAVE SALES!

* Did anything about this weekend help you step out of your comfort zone and what challenge would you give to our readers?
After I decided to head to Christian Fashion Week, I really didn’t know what to expect. As an Apostolic/Pentecostal Christian, modesty for me is a bit traditional and very different from what it can mean to others. However, I don’t think that should prevent me from seeing or appreciate what the rest of the Christian community has to offer.

The challenge I would leave for my readers is not to compromise your personal style or convictions for fashion. You CAN be fashionable while maintaining a certain standard of modesty and not compromise who you are in Christ. I believe in you!

Blessings,
Typhanie Stewart

Typhanie Stewart is a public relations and marketing professional who so happens to adore the world of fashion and blogging. She loves God, and posts on her blog mygarmentsofpraise.com about how her relationship with Him influences her personal style.

The blog name "My Garments of Praise" was inspired by Isaiah 61:3, "...to give unto them...the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified." In all that she does (even in getting dressed!), her desire is to do it with praise and joy, as unto the Lord.
