Sun Kissed Skin

Hi Ladies!

I am both humbled and excited to be joining you!  I cannot wait to show you what we have in store.

By the way my name is Laura and here are a few things about me.  I live in Michigan, I'm a "let's make things more efficient" engineer and my husband and I have been married for just over 5 years... 5 years and 5 days to be exact.  I enjoy helping others especially helping women find confidence they didn't realize existed.  I look forward to joining you on your journey, linking arms, and having a great conversation.  Alright without further adieu... the first Laura post for Fashion Meets Faith.com !!!

Sun-Kissed Skin

Last weekend I had a blast on one of the Great Lakes!  Saturday started as a “I’ll only be a few minutes” and turned into being outside a few hours without sunscreen.  Time does fly when we’re helping family, doesn't it?  This weekend it was grandpa and outdoor things.

Anyways, I arrived at the office on Monday morning a rosy complexion.  Since I was so pink I realized that my normal Clear Pop Color, Fuchsia, the jacket I was wearing, was a little too bright for my skin color.  I looked funny.

So how to fix it?  Ladies who are Warm's typically have a rosy  complexion and red-ish hair coloring.  They also look funny in Bright Pink.  I am not a true Warm, but with my rosy skin I was certainly looking better in their colors!  The next day I wore an Emerald top that looked SO much better!  It’s not that I lost my Clear colors it’s that I chose to stick to colors that looked great on a Clear and a Warm.  That meant losing the Blacks and Pinks until my skin turned tan… or pasty white as it is so good at doing.

Not only did the sun change my color choices it also changed my outfit contrast too.  I am typically very pale with dark brown hair so my contrast level is very high between my skin color and my hair color.  A zebra print is typically great on me for that reason!  Because my skin and hair color are closer in shade the zebra print washes me out and you would only see my zebra print instead of ME!  It wouldn’t be pretty.  My Navy Skirt and Emerald Top looked great with my still not very tan legs and pink-ish arms.  The contrast between my outfit and my skin were not more than the contrast between my hair and my skin.

If you are adding color to your skin this summer be sure to double check your color choices.  You may not fully change your Dominant Color Characteristics, but be mindful that you might be dipping your toe into other DCC's.  Find yours here...
or here... Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad... Chapter 2

Here are a few notes for each Coloring:

Deeps:  As you go darker you might need to reconsider your prints.  Try to keep the contrast of the print similar to the contrast of your skin and hair shades... hint.. stick with your solid gem tones!

Lights: You may need to watch the pink as well, stay away from the pinks while your skin is rosy.

Softs:  You will likely not change your look too much as summer wears on.

Clears:  Watch your contrast and your rosy skin.

Warms: Rosy or Tan skin looks good on you!

Cools:  Try to stick with your Blues and Purples until your rosy cheeks turn brown.

Now Ladies...

The BEST option is to always wear some high SPF sunscreen to prevent any Rosy/Tan skin.

If you DO get burnt here are a few tips from my home to yours:

Tip #1:  Grandma always used Apple Cider Vinegar to take the sting out of our sunburns, then coated us in Noxzema and made us wear a white t-shirt.  I'm not sure why exactly, but white t-shirts always feel better than colored ones.  This "old wives tale" is one we still use in our house today.

Tip #2: Be careful of your strap situation.  I wore a tank this weekend with a wide strap which is where my normal bra goes.  After you have your sunburn be sure your bra straps are tight... loose straps cause more soreness and discomfort when they move around.  Straps are also magically easier to tighten at home than in the bathroom at work!  Been there!

Ladies you are beautiful just the way you are no matter your skin shade or hair color.  If you have any questions on how to dress for who you are today please leave me a comment!

This about sums up my feelings right now... one of my favorite ones... Life is about the people you meet, and the things you create with them so go out and start creating...

Thank you SO much for letting me be a part of your life!  Stay tuned!  Monday I have a reader question on how to make a summer dress work for you.  "Make it Work Monday" is what I'm calling it.

Until then have a great weekend!

Laura, this is an enlightening post; I am a ‘warm’, happy to hear rosy and tan looks good on me. Your enthusiasm comes through and I like the ‘this is your life’ verse. Thanks for the picture of you and hubby; congratulations on your 5th anniversary!

So great to meet you Laura! I live in Michigan too, in Midland. I'd been a Soft but changed to a Clear when I went back to my original hair color (that is where it isn't gray LOL). I look forward to more posts from you; Blessings!
